Showtime greenlit soul food, although they used a lot of canadian guest actors alongside american ones.

It was still a good show but not that complex like a docu or analytical book format.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately and it will definitely take a very long time for us to see a show made by blacks talking about our issues in the complex manner of a well written book or documentary style without no c00nery or buffonery.

We got a long way to go but I believe it could be done but may not happen in my lifetime.

I really want to see us advance from this simplified nature of over exaggerated soap opera dramas like Tyler Perry plays being posed as so called "movies".

I mean we have the cinematography part on point with veteran pro Ernest dikkerson and also Spike Lee is out there. We definitely need a lot of top notch writers to do this.

It make me very SAD when people like Mona Scott Young, Shonda Rhimes and Madea, are being touted as the best the black community has to offer in these modern times with all their basic generic subpar stuff.

after 300 years of slavery and colonialism, have you supported your black creatives through each step of progress?

The Wire is a bad example bruh. Save for one season, it featured a mostly black cast and gave a shytload of talented but unknown black actors an opportunity they normally wouldn't get. That other show, the Corner, was critically acclaimed as well and I don't remember any white people on there

The Corner was critically acclaimed and deserved it......But It was a freaking mini series

And if you think that if you replaced McNulty and Carcetti with 2 brothers the show would have still received all of these accolades, then, I don't know what to tell ya....

The funny thing is that the wire was never a ratings beast like Curb your Enthusiasm or The Sopranos........The wire popped off after the show had ended because of word of mouth from a strong cult following....As a great as that show was, that mostly black cast and themes was not attractive to viewers..
