Wait didn't Christianity start at the New Testament?
Well if it did they have to divorce itself from the OT. If they do that then they have no justification for this jesus fellow (which is similar to the situation with the OT). They also have to explain why Jesus was a Jew. The OT is the foundation for Christianity and its too late to rewrite that history.

But yes they would be better off without the OT.

No problem. If you ever get a chance do check out that - Insights for The Age of Aquarious, a handbook for religious sanity. (Although the title may lead one to think of some kind of "New Age" material, Its far from a "New Age" type of book). It Is truly, as the title says, A handbook for religious sanity. Meaning its a book allowing people to become Intelligently Religious and Intelligently Critical.

Wrong. 'Divorcing' from the OT would make the NT void as the 'justification' for J's 'divinity' is found in the OT. J was a Hebrew and Christianity was/is the 'heart' of Judaism for Gentiles. The NT builds on the OT + Apochryphal texts.

have her read this one...

The contemporary classic the New York Times Book Review called “a thought-provoking [and] perceptive guide,” Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard E. Friedman is a fascinating, intellectual, yet highly readable analysis and investigation into the authorship of the Old Testament. The author of Commentary on the Torah, Friedman delves deeply into the history of the Bible in a scholarly work that is as exciting and surprising as a good detective novel. Who Wrote the Bible? is enlightening, riveting, an important contribution to religious literature, and as the Los Angeles Times aptly observed in its rave review, “There is no other book like this one.”

Yeah, I did, but I'm not following how one'd 'divorce' one from the other or why.

the fellow I quoted stated that Christianity started in the New Testament. This is a tactic I find many Christians eager to use because of all the evilness contained and sanctioned or even done by yahweh in the OT. So I was stating that if they want to use that approach they would have to divorce from the OT (no longer have it in their bible, the NT). However, I noted the problem they would then have supporting this Jesus fellow because they attempt to use prophecy from the OT to support the notion he is god in the NT (even though the support and prophecies IMO are extremely sketchy anyways).

I also dont see how they can divorce from the NT even though it would be beneficial if they could. Its already a known fact they used Judaism as their shaky foundation, which makes for a shaky Christianity.

Lemme ask you this though; Does not the fact that they cannot divorce from Judaism show that the actual argument for this Jesus fellow is lacking? If the fellow actually came and did the shyt they pretend he did why would they need a bunch of obscure prophecy from the OT which have to be shoehorned anyways, to show he is god?

Nah, if anything it strengthens the case because of similar figures at that time doing similar things, but they weren't Jewish....
