Can anyone name Black Movies in the past 30 years that aren't Trauma Porn?

Black panther.

A lot of Denzel movies.

Miles Morales.
Nope. panther counts as trauma

Recall kill monger's origins in the inner city and his constant references to the struggle.

I will grant you Denzel tho. That's true. His flight movie being one that wasn't trauma based. I'll grant you the spiderman movie too

Black panther movie is literally about a dude being exiled and abandoned from his homeland and taking revenge on his own people.:mjlol:

Soundtrack by Kendrick Lamar. But
..not trauma porn? Lol. Maybe I'm not understanding this term.

Trauma Porn as in:

- I made it out of the gutter Hood movies
- Gang movies
- I suffered from abuse but I made it out ok movies
- Slavery movies
- I was wrongfully accused and was in jail for a decade movies
- Etc etc

Hollywood is not going to do it for us, but it's time to end this genre or at least greatly limit it. If it means supporting more growth of Black Directors and Black screenplay writers, then I'm all for it. Please name them?

Is "Death At A Funeral" trauma porn?

It was technically about a funeral but the movie in general was a light-hearted comedy with an all-star cast.

  • Ghostdog- :hubie: Its black cinema IDGAF. Forest was black, the ice cream man french breh was black, Nessa's book worm ass was black, and RZA doing a cameo was black. Forest punking the mafia to some Wu bangas was a good feel movie of all time.
  • Boomerang-Movie was such a blueprint that sadly it will never be done ever again :francis:
  • The Best Man-Perfect example of a black movie without the bullshyt tropes and a doable script

Outside that....we could go the lesser known routes:

Family struggle but with a unique twist to tackling the issues that involves black families

Ehhhh I know this is beyond 30 years but it still holds weight as a movie of my dreams that involves black folks going outside the typical stereotypes in cinema. I want more flicks like this to discuss time traveling, space, and finding self in the mist of a collapsing world.
