Facts, the simple love for the music is where it starts. If you stick with it you’ll get a shot. With that said, I think the best bet would be to get in through the back door as a song writer or some ancillary role. From there, you can use the resources around you to do your shyt and network until you get your shot.
The thing is almost nobody aspires towards the back door. Songwriters/ghostwriters are on the same path as popular acts until their foot is in the door and they get cast aside due to lacking certain traits or simple poor luck of the draw.

Writing becomes the bill payer and if they become financially successful enough at it the need to be upfront wanes. But most young undiscovered creatives want the stuff they created to be recognized with them.

People always cite 2chainz, ignoring the fact that he was already politicking in the industry for 10+ years before he blew up.
A whole bunch of artists are politicking in the industry and never blow up or still blow up in the vaunted “before 30” category. It’s still a feat that despite being pretty irrelevant/“unsuccessful” in his “prime years” he became one of the hottest, most featured rappers after the age of 35

The reason the music industry is dominated by young blood is because they have the time and passion.....then some other random kids find that music and keep sharing it....thats why kids also make or break these social media platforms.

Most people over the age of 30 got alot of shyt going on and ain't got hours to explore new music.

I still remember when i was 17 and finding out Jay Z was 27 when he dropped his first debut....and i thought to myself "damn he was old as shyt "

Music industry is a young mans game.....try acting....Morgan freeman was like 50 when he had his big break :yeshrug:

Would Victoria Monét count? Looks like she was mainly a song writer until she gained more popularity as an artist.

Edit: I forgot about Tobe Nwigwe. His music isn't popular but it seems like he has a solid fanbase. He was also in the last Transformers movie which is something.

30-55 is a huge age range lol

30- definitely can still blow.

40s-50s can find an audience, I’m sure. But be some huge star? Anything is possible and it’s happened, just isn’t probable

Thing is she’s been making solo music AND active behind the scenes for years.

In her case it was more of not “if but when” she blows. She was ready for the spotlight
