Basically they do it like how the NCAA does it. They have one basketball program or franchise, and they dont try to hide the fact that theyre affiliated with the mens. The womens teams bear the same names as the mens teams.

For example, Womens college basketball is so much more popular than WNBA because of the familiarity. Youre more likely to watch womens march madness because you know all those schools from mens sports, and you might have an affinity or interest for how theyre getting down on the womens side.

If WNBA was like that there would be no "LA Sparks" they would be simply the LA Lakers Womens team or the LA Lady Lakers. Same logo, same colors. If all the WNBA had the same names as their NBA affiliate teams, people would naturally be more interested in watching. I youre a nets fan youre more likely to support the Lady Nets. If WNBA playoffs roll around youre gonna be more interested in watching the Lady Celtics vs the womens 76'ers than you are to watch the sandstorm vs the splash or whatever the fxck. Over here they try to push this fake azz illusion of gender independence and its backfiring in a major way.

good points i never thought about it this way

yep
And that leads to more money being pumped in, as a owner etc. you don't want the name barcelona or psg etc. being sullied so even the women teams are stacked

Women's soccer in Europe is exactly the same. And lo and behold they're far and away the most popular and the only ones people care about

How old are you? I'm asking because that's basically how the League started, all the teams were owned by an NBA team. I used to work at the WNBA, being affiliate with the NBA league and teans has it's own disadvantages and marketing has always been a struggle. Don't think there's a simple solution either.

It can't hurt, but the league has always had stars. In general the wome's game is more entertaining now than ever, but it still feels like a step down from the men's game. Not sure how they shake that.
