At 20 Luka was pushing a tail end prime Kawhi, PG13 and Clippers team in the playoffs with 40 point games on 60% shooting, 13 assist nights with role players.
At 21 dude did the same (Jalen Brunson wasn't Jalen Brunson yet).
At 22 dude had that deep play-off run and a phenomenal series against the 1st seed Suns.
At 22 Cade just ain't the same killer Luka was. The shooting, handle, BBIQ and court vision are nowhere close.
Can you see a 22 year old Luka having an 0-15 stretch? Nah.
Luka is a natural jumbo point guard from the jump (as a kid). Dude's favorite players were Ricky Rubio and LeBron James.
Cade is a natural forward who worked on his passing skills in high school. That's a big difference. Remember, it's the NBA. Point guards have been playing point guard their whole life. The real problem is Cade is an undersized forward. Doesn't have the stellar BBIQ, handle, creativity and quickness to be your main point guard, doesn't have the shooting ability to be your main goto shooting guard and doesn't have the size and elite athleticism to be your main forward. People are expecting a LeBron/Luka but dude ain't that kind of match-up problem.
When you get real about it you can get a clearer picture about where you need to go as a team. What you need is dude to be the secondary ballhandler/playmaker and build a motion offense. Like a Ginobli role to Tony Parker. However, that also requires dude to become a much better shooter than he currently is and you need to find your true #1 goto like they had with Tim Duncan. Cade said that he studied Khris Middleton which is great as he fit that Ginobli role next to Jrue and Giannis, but Khris Middleton was a 40%+ 3P shooter.
That's the thing as well: what team would build their franchise around Khris Middleton? That's the issue here. "Can we find some shooters around Cade?" isn't the right question to ask as a franchise. Ivey used to run a complex offense in college and may need more time as the lead guard. Cade should play off-ball. Now, can you find your Tim Duncan, Giannis, Embiid or Jokic? That's the right question to ask and would puts fans from that city right into seats.
