Doc was kinda wack and it went by fast so I had a few questions

Man really ain’t go back to London until then?

His former teammate who didn’t go into detail about his own situation when the camera was on him ?

Barry really avoided questions

His father passed away all his sons look like him but even they were like what ?

He didn’t get married until 2000 and got divorced in 2012 what role did that play

It felt like a lot was missing or worse they took stuff out to protect the Lions. The family aspect was beautiful and it was a love letter to his father. The part with his father holding the ball and talking about fatherhood was so beautiful with so much emotion that we never got from Barry which is another reason why I think he was a major focus of the doc.

1999 both was of the past and the future go figure

I didn’t know you could edit faxes it would’ve been wild if someone intercepted the fax and leaked it.

They ain’t even go into his retirement letter and he himself stated “My retirement letter didn't even hint at my frustration, because I didn't want to take shots at people as I left ... Management had let quality players slip away. We'd been losing for years. Now we were right back where we were when I arrived." He wrote: "A goal that I still hadn't realized was playing in the Super Bowl, and all of the statistical achievements didn't put the team any closer to playing in the big game“

Man’s retirement voided a 20.9 million dollar contract and he was forced to pay the Lions back his bonus

In 2017 he became a paid team ambassador for the Lions

At age 36 he’s the second youngest inductee into the pro football hall of fame

Must watch

Dude is a once in a lifetime back, don’t think I’ve seen anything close to him ever in my life

Maybe prime Lesean

LeSean McCoy was good but doesn't compare to Barry breh

Alvin Kamara has been the closest we had

Alvin Kamara :russ:

People really exaggerate when they go on and on about Barry being stuck on bad teams.

The 90s Lions weren't the Cowboys, but it's not like they were going 3-13 every year either. They made the playoffs half the time, and even during the years they missed the playoffs, they were winning 5-7 games.

@mitter you must be one hell of an underachiever if you think 5 - 11 and 7 - 9 are decent seasons :skip:

5-11 and 7-9 are not great seasons, but they aren't the same as going 2-14 or something.

The point is, HALF of Barry's career he played on winning teams. Even when the teams were losing, they were still competitive and not at the bottom of the league.

The way people tell the story of Barry's career, he had to endure some sort of exceptional, extreme level of losing. That's simply not true. He didn't play on the Cowboys or 49ers, but the Lions would start every season with fans/writers/commentators thinking there was a reasonable chance they would make the playoffs.

Decent doc. Always wondered if Barry was slightly autistic. His social awkwardness always reminded of autism
WTF?
How is he socially awkward?

There is nothing socially awkward about him.

Shout out to his dad, good for him for raising a man with great character.

I bet Barry was smart enough to realize the Lions aint shyt, and would basically destroy his body/brain if he kept playing for them.

It takes a humble man to walk away at the prime of physical health, because there are way too many guys who keep playing until they can't physically anymore.

They definitely left a lot of meat on the bone ⏸️. It was 'feel good' to watch but most of it was covered in articles Fr or YT vids. True to form, Barry was prolly the quietest dude in his own doc til he was wit his boys at the end & he still was juking his own kin on sum of the questions lol

It felt like this was made for Lions fans and the unspoken part was what we already knew: he couldn't do it anymore for a team going nowhere.

I remember Chris Mortensen going on ESPN and saying the commissioner should step in and force Detroit to trade him so he would keep playing. Truth be told, he probably should have. Barry didn't wanna trash anybody on the way out but if he woulda got traded to a contending team around that time, I believe he woulda kept playing.

If only Sheila Ford was running the show back then. :mjcry:

I am as big a fan of Barry as anyone.

But I have never seen an organization as unfairly criticized for not being "good enough" for a certain superstar as I see with the Lions and Barry.

Barry wasn't stuck on the equivalent of the Raiders in Al Davis' final years. The Lions were not great, but they were not trash either. They had some good players and were competitive.

Also, Barry is hardly blameless when it comes to Detroit coming up short in the playoffs.

1993: Barry has a great game. But with the ball and the lead and a few minutes left, Barry gets stuffed on consecutive downs. Lions fail to convert on third and long, and the Packers get the ball back. It was only after that that Favre had the opportunity to hit Sharpe for that crazy TD.

1994: Barry runs for -1 yards on 13 carries.
