By the mid-1970s, Black middle-class families were moving into the all-white hoods. Tensions rose!

Yea I also don’t know when the suburban boom ended but most of these Italians would pick up and move to Long Island.

These days Italian neighborhoods are being taken over by the Chinese so their bigoted minds are more concerned about them.

I’ve cross paths with many Italians and they are probably the most segregated group I know.

They do not like to live with anyone. They like their neighborhoods to be exclusively for them.

I recall reading about an Italian kid bombing two real estate offices in Canarsie, Brooklyn back in the late 80s. Canarsie is 80% black today.

Makes sense cause the black ghettos were too blighted and in the middle of a heron epidemic, NYC meltdown financial crisis and later the crack epidemic. A middle class family wasn’t about to raise their child in Harlem, The South Bronx,Bed Stuy, Flatbush or Jamaica.

Blacks were getting money at the time so the only place to move where they could raise a family comfortably was the Suburban looking NYC hoods that were mainly Italian.

Wasnt benson hurst like that.

I remember from do the right thing how that seem like a segregated Italian neighborhood

Don't forget about the Irish. The two poorest and discriminated against non Jewish white ethnic groups.

Chris Rock said when he was bused to a white school and was abused daily by Irish and Italians. The kids that were nice to him were the Jewish kids.

I hate they make the south look like it was the only region where racism existed. Segregation especially when it comes to housing and schooling is as American as apple pie.

Word. Not familiar with the Irish like that. I know Gerritsen has Lots of them. But that area is pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

My dad use to work in Bensonhurst when it was all Italian. He has fought many Italians before.

Bensonhurst is mostly Chinese now. If you go there now you will probably see almost every store on 18th Ave and Bay Parkway with Chinese symbols.

My Chinese friend who claims he was the first Chinese people to ever live in Bensonhurst/Bath Beach said his Chinese family went through a lot of hatred by Italian people.

I thought it was like 98 percent black. It seems like areas in queens changed the fastest. Out on Long Island, a lot of black towns still have white people, but in queens they really were out with quickness.

Wiki says 79% black and 10% Hispanic with a 5% white demographic.

So Italians don’t even make up 10% of the neighborhood today.

So yea it feels like it’s 98% black when you’re driving down the Conduit.

This is a very interesting video because these cacs are being completely honest. We couldn't have this type of dialogue today.

The problem is because of racism, a black middle class isn't allowed to form like other communities. Whites try to make it seem like its a moral failure on our part,, but it's actually a failure of American society. Hard working black people are not allowed to join their white economic peers and this stifles overall black economic progress.

When whites were moving from the city in the 1930s and 1940s, those who went to school or found a trade and worked hard were able to escape white lower class areas and the problems that the environment entailed. Over time, they were able to establish middle income area away from other poor whites. Whites who reached their economic levels were accepted into the club and this club grew reducing the number of poor whites. But hard working blacks were denied entry into the club.

The black family was never allowed to join their economic peers. As soon as they could afford a nice home in a nice neighborhood, their white economic peers fled. Now the black middle class family was forced to live in the same poor environment that they worked hard to escape in the first place and the problems presented by such an environment.

Rinse, Repeat this process all over the country. God bless America on this 4th of July. :troll:
