I think the biggest issue in this country is the rent. I think that is what holds alot of people back. Having rent that is half alot of people's paychecks.

We get assistance in health, tuition, etc in certain jobs but rent just kills everyone.

Can someone explain to me what a mortgage is exactly?

houses are expensive. 1.5M for a nice house in a decent toronto suburb.

99% of people don't have 1.5M in the bank.

bank gives you a loan for 80% of the price of the house they think you can afford with the income you have. in exchange you pay interest over the life of the mortgage. the better credit you have the better interest rates you get on your mortgage.

for a mortgage of $500000 with a 2.9% interest rate, 25 year amortization with monthly payments (life of the mortgage), you're actually paying a total of roughly $710000.

be a slave to the bank by 30 brehs. spend thirty years to pay it back brehs.

be tied down to your corporate job because you need to make mortgage payments or else you gotta sell your house brehs.

again, you could be in way worse of a position but this scenario is key to a mediocre life without freedom. just don't get complacent.

I feel this way.

I know people who are buying hones at age 38 and shyt.

In 30 years they might be dead :ohhh:

Life expectancy ain't what it used to

There are a lot of hidden costs to owning a house. Houses are sold as a fantasy and yes they're good for equity, but unless you know you're going to be some place for 5-10 years, don't bother.

I'm an army brat so I wanted the experience, but to tell you the truth it would've been smarter to buy a townhouse with lots of space and lawn care then give the :camby: to a house.

I was hoping to have this by 35. But I'm experiencing some chemical imbalance right now, and sort of don't care. Lost my job and position at school this week.

Broke, but still grateful and hopeful. Wasn't expecting much or had a solid plan so shyt happened. My spirit will not be broken and i'm tool old to allow others to beat upon me. It's not only parents that put these expectations on us. My parents didn't. Loving life today.

Biggest issue is people spending more than they make. Debt and credit debt kills people's ability to gain real wealth.

People be better off renting and saving vs getting into a mortgage. Being a homeowner has hidden costs like house maintenance, property taxes, homeowners insurance etc. before buying a house you should be debt free, with an emergency fund of around 6 months. And if you get a mortgage, 15 year fixed and the payment shouldn't be more than 25% of your income monthly take home

Buying homes later in life is fine if you gonna pay it off early. Stop assuming 30 years. Pay extra and own that shyt in less than 15.
