Russell Westbrook 37 points vs Lakers full highlights (2012 NBA Playoffs CSF GM4) - YouTube

If you can explain plays like this one to me, I'll stop saying Kobe is overrated as a defender. He stands there, lets Westbrook run right by him, then holds his hands up in disgust at his teammates? In what world is that elite defense?

He forced him to the off hand and pau was supposed to help him, its called help defense.

homo, kobe was on westbrook that entire game and he hit 2 fukking shots. Kobe can't do that every game because hes 34... so he relies sometimes on help defense, which pau is unable to provide as you saw in that clip.

So in other words, he's not an elite defender.

:laff: at "forcing him to the off hand". He was little more than a parking cone on that play. Even if Pau wasn't being held, he would have had to step in front of Westbrook and leave Perkins all alone for a dunk.

He guards Rondo and he used to guard Westbrook because he could just play zone on both of them and go under every screen. He guards Wade based on ego and overplays and lets Wade pick and roll the Lakers to death. Other than that he's guarding the least threatening and/or most one dimensional scorer on the other team on a daily basis and you want to say he's elite? He is hidden on the defensive end. His coaches have always said they want to preserve his energy by letting him rest on defense.

Friend your obsession with 5 time NBA champion Kobe Bean Bryant has unfortunately not allowed you to think objectively. A single play where you believe there is a lapse in defense, even though there is not clearly a lapse in defense, only a percieved one ,and you discredit someones defensive abilities. This is not a rational way to view the world. A more rational person would look at more than a single play, perhaps watch more than a single game, and take the expert word of coaches who make a living off the game in re-consider Kobe's defensive prowess.

Speaking of guarding wade.

Kobe's easily the most overrated defender of all time. How you get voted to the first team 9 times but never even mentioned for DPOY ? The other 3 guys with that many first team selections all won DPOY, how come Kobe couldn't ?

MJ 9 time 1st team defender...........1988 Defensive Player of the Year
Payton 9 time 1st team defender......1996 Defensive Player of the Year
KG 9 time 1st team defender............2008 Defensive Player of the Year

Kobe 9 time 1st team defender..........Never even finished in the top 5 :wtf:

Kobe Bryant Lockdown Defense on D-Wade HD - YouTube

Kobe Bryant Sticks Russell Westbrook - YouTube

:laff: That clip of Wade is from almost 5 years ago. The Westbrook clip, well, I don't even know why you posted it.

Kobe excelling on the defensive side is the exception, not the norm. I'm sure we can find a few clips of Steve Nash picking people's pockets in the last 5 years but it doesn't change anything.

I've said it plenty of times before, Kobe has the ability to be a good defender but he isn't used as one. His coaches hide him on that side so he has energy for offense. Why do people ignore that and say he plays elite defense anyway? Who the hell knows.

Oh ok, so posting one clip and superimposing it on an entire players ability is a bad idea, who the fukk would do that :mindblown:

Wouldn't that invalidate someones entire argument?

Well we have a whole army of kobestans who upload every positive Kobe play on to youtube yet you're having to go back 5 years for defensive examples.

Your agenda here is just strange. It seems like it would be easier to say "Yeah he may not be the defensive presence he once was but he still scores 25-30 a game at age 34, :umad:?" but instead your argument is more like "Kobe's defense isn't porous, it's elite like a matador" :what:
