Read the article. It was reported to the police immediately but they've been sitting on it, even though there were numerous physical injuries and he got caught on tape admitting he had sex with her.
Victims have no control over whether a D.A. presses charges or what happens after that. And 98% of reported rapes don't result in anyone serving jail time. Since she reported it to her school and to the police, what other option does she have besides following through on her own with the one means she has available?

Lot of 13/4/15/16/17 year old girls doing this in every town, city, and at every college campus across the U.S.
Lot of 'em don't have "self-esteem" or "daddy" issues (some do). Most will not become troubled adults (some will). Many will become happily married and have kids of their own.
A lot of them even...like it.
I haven't seen his two co-defendants (edit: one is black, one is Samoan) but Araiza is a pretty boy football player with minor celebrity. He did what every type of dude like this does, let the homies eat too.
She was in over her head, got tossed around, and didn't like the fallout.

I've seen fathers come into party spots and help their daughters pick up her belongings after she woke up naked in a bathroom, in tears, being called a "gutter slut."
I'd like to believe I would handle it with such grace.
Girl is now happily married, btw.
