I really like how the Grammy performance gave Anderson just that little bit of extra shine. That performance was terrific all around. Can't wait for this project to drop.
This project is going to get him his just due afterward. And it's the perfect teamup Anderson with the gritty effortless soul and Bruno with the falsetto polish. They are gonna do it big.

Great song but man it’s depressing knowing that if this was Anderson and literally any other black singer not named Beyonce/Rihanna it wouldn’t have 30mil YouTube views or be popping. We’re at a point where “throwback” black music is only a noteworthy novelty when a non-black person is doing it. Adele will have white people blown away doing that style. Sharon Jones (when she was alive)? Nobody cares and they’ll dismiss it as regressive.

Not shytting on Bruno (or Adele), just shytting on fans.

facts....this is part of the reason leon bridges didn't get as big as he should've. Repost from 3 years ago

but as I said many times on here black people can't and don't blow doing retro sounds of their OWN musical past. The examples are endless. A white person would blow easier doing retro soul, funk, jazz etc..than a black person doing those same sounds from their own culture because it's considered passe until a white/non-black does it which provides a shock factor due to the unexpectedness.

i would argue that what you're describing is why this is so important. imo, this feels like bruno using his platform to celebrate an artist who deserves it. and if the result is anderson getting some shine, and that shine sticking with him after this collabo has run its course... i think how he gets there is less important than getting him there.

the alternative is that he doesn't get this look at all.

Yeah, theorizing why they are doing this group together I was thinking it's just mutually beneficial.
Bruno partnering with a well respected Black artist in his genre can help him combat culture vulture accusations and Anderson partnering with Bruno will help him commercially and noteriety wise.
It may not even be that calculated by them they might just like working together but there are definitely added benefits for both.

From the interviews and hearing about how long they've been working together it feels like this is genuine chemistry and mutual respect for each others artistry. This being the launch pad that Paak deserves is just an added bonus in my opinion.

I don’t have an opinion about Adele because I don’t listen to her music. But besides Bruno Mars who else is really trying to make classic r&b like him? No one but Bruno uses New Jack swing sounds. No one but Bruno seems to want to sing ballads like Motown artists of 60’s and 70’s.

Bruno gets praise because he is one of the few artists that are recreating that sound at a high level.

And on top of that Bruno is an entertainer in mold
of Michael Jackson. So not only is he going to bring you good r&b music but he is going give you the ultimate show with his dancing prowess as well.

Bruno popularity has more to do with his talent than his skin color. No male artist America is combining classic R&B sounds and Dance like Bruno is. That’s why he is so successful. He is unique within this space simply due to timing. He wouldn’t have been unique in the 90’s.

.

Leon Bridges was doing 1960's retro R&B

rapael saadiq has made numerous albums of retro 1960 and 1970s R&b sounds

Pj Morton had an album that was a throwback to the classic 1970s Stevie Wonder period
