Like I told @
SuikodenII before AB moved up to 147, I thought and would've preferred Broner to stay at 135 and unify the belts before moving up.
Ricky Burns ducked Broner and is still ducking to this day
Before Broner moved up, after he destroyed DeMarco everyone was asking what fight at 135 would interest the fans? Which fighter had a legitimate shot at beating Broner, and the answer was.......no one. Not Nyquil, not Burns, not Beltran, not Abril, not Crawford, no one at the time. Gamboa was a name, but neither side really had any serious negotiations with one another. Broner saw the money at 147, which is where the money still lies, and jumped at the champion people considered the most beatable at the time, Paulie.
Honestly, that was a smart business move to go for a 3rd championship at a 3rd weight division while 135 attempted to sort itself out, I was actually all for it.........as long as he weighed in at 141.
1. He needs speed; fast hands and quick feet to close distance on PM.
2. Stick close to 135 where you're currently dominating and possibly 140 to pick up a 4th title at a 4th weight division.
Well, once he weighed in at 146.75, had a sub-par performance against a guy who was dominated and stopped by Khan and Hatton, and blew up in weight afterwards.........I had to take him off my p4p list, and I saw he was putting himself in a more difficult situation than need be staying at Welterweight and facing who the
fans chose in Maidana. Admirable, it really was, and to my knowledge NOT ONE GOOD GOD DAMN REPORTER HAS GIVEN HIM THE CREDIT FOR DOING THIS, and a business move in his eyes, and probably GBP as well, to make the most amount of money by gauging the fight fans' interest in his next bout.
And like I told @
synistr , you don't sell a big market fight to fight fans, you sell it to the general public, and as long as you're dominating guys with KO's like he was over on HBO, people will be interested and tune in. And he can't do that at 147 just yet, he needs time to perfect his craft.
Patience is a virtue, but he was trying to move too fast having a PPV and staying at 147 where he looked good but not his usual dominant self. Maybe his ego simply got too large, maybe he flew too close to the Sun (Mayweather) trying to be something he's too inexperienced to be, but either way, forget about a rematch, dedicate yourself to your profession, and move back down to 135 and gradually move.
And
to @
Newzz for sticking through the fire, human patience wears thin, but even if he does turn into Berto 2.0, I fully expect you to ride for AB till the end.
