I meant like on Twitter or an interview with a big name outlet; just something in passing. Weren’t those names advertised?
Shaq mentioned AEW on Inside The NBA, Snoop used his platforms, and other websites & podcasts covered their appearances. That's a much bigger net than they could cast with Twitter, or by saying something in passing.
AEW even had a good opportunity by having Jade at a NASCAR event last month. Unfortunately, Bianca Belair & Montez Ford were also there, so that's where ALL of the media attention went. There are pics online of Bianca, Montez, and Rick Ross at the event, and there are pics of Jade just kind of by herself. The good news is that AEW is finally using the biggest "star" they have (Jade) to make media appearances. Eventually, she'll start to get some media attention.

Bottom line is pro Wrasslin ain’t as popular as it used to be. Thinking back, Even the Yes Movement didn’t bring in much eyes. It’s gonna take campaigning and shyt to get a sliver of mainstream popularity. :skip:

WWWF was around forever but really, Vince getting Hogan fresh off Rocky III and making him champ helped WWF go national and mainstream, as everyone who saw Rocky III knew whom Hogan was. Then they paired him with Mr. T and had Piper as the perfect heel. Add in Cyndi Lauper and MTV, and that is what really made them a mainstream national promotion. That was maybe 3 years tops. AEW would have to find a wrestler with national recognition, and then create an angle that would capture pop culture and mainstream media. Punk has recognition but his UFC adventure kind of has a negative connotation with non-wrestling casual people you would want to attract. If AEW could get one of Stone Cold, Rock, or Cena to do a match, with a mainstream star beside them with the right build, they may have a chance. But the shots they have had (Shaq/Cody stuff with a quick build as a TV match, AEW coming on after the NBA and Jericho getting clowned, etc.), they have not been able to take advantage of.

Bare in mind the formula for mainstream attention for pro wrestling 40 years ago is different
now
What is mainstream now anyway? Like I said earlier pop culture is confusing now, cause everything fragmented

Look at how people argue about why youtubers are famous even though they are or how people say they've never heard Bad Bunny or BTS but the numbers they pull say otherwse

I think even if AEW found its Rock and Stone Cold it would be tough to get attention beyond trending on twitter which wrestling does anyway. No one watches MTV or picks up a Rolling Stone cover.

If anything having a stronger relationship with Turner and promoting different wrestlers at different things like WWE/Universal NBC does is all you can hope for. Or have a relationship Turner Sports like WWE did with ESPN/Ringer (Hey they is Ringer still part of HBO Media?)

They need to start by having way less corny shyt on their shows. Most of the stuff they show on there weekly would get a mix of 😐🫤😕 from the average person that’s channel surfing.

I feel like the only one who tried seriously to reach out to the mainstream was Cody with very minimal success, but at least he tried. Since he left, they've never really made any serious attempts to be seen outside of their shows.
I feel like their core fanbase hated Cody for that and would probably shyt on any of the other male talent that tried to do the same stuff. Think about how your average Dub fan talks about the Miz...but that's the type of talent they would have to embrace.

I know how this thread is gonna end up, so before it does, let me just say there's a lot that would need to change before they even think about becoming mainstream.

Almost none of it to do with the product too. How bout actually create a corporate structure with experienced people. I went to look up who was head of marketing so me shytting on them would be accurate. It was God damn nick Jackson's wife. These dudes have no shot to make it :laff:

They're literally a mom and pop shop 😀
It would help if TK stopped being such a control freak and actually delegated.

Get a good marketing team, Kevin Gates, Melissa Joan Hart, Vince Vaughn (I think) and countless other "stars" have shown love to your company be it social media, and or going to a show, you gotta plant the seed if you want the plant to grow

Oh MJH's thick ass likes wrasslin too :mjlit:

Aew need to learn how to focus on themselves & learn the basics like producing & booking a proper show.

Then they need to focus on touring so they can stop having shows at the same 4-5 venues.
