The opposite, actually. Some of the best public schools in the country. The private schools can’t compete with the resources the public schools have. In fact, it’s no reason to send your child to private if you live in the area. If your child does not attend the local public school then they are being sent to New England boarding schools which are comparable to the education in the area.

But we’re in first world countries.

Appreciating nice things is as normal as appreciating clean water.

We’re surrounded by luxury yet we’re guilt-tripped for being attracted to it.

My issue isn’t even with the coat, it’s the mentality behind it. Pressure makes diamonds & you gotta grind before you shine. These kids aren’t being told that the parents are in a position to give their kids those things; they’re just shaming the parents for their own shortcomings.

One of my naija friends just got his doctorate; can you imagine if he came from a household that told him not to pursue medicine because it’s unfair to people who work in supermarkets? There will always be better and worse off than yourself. People find ways to afford concert tickets, iPhones, iPads, PS4s, vacations, and all these other luxuries but a winter coat is where we draw a line in the sand?

If I can’t tell people to stop having multiple kids they can’t afford I don’t wanna hear randoms telling me shyt about my only child.

Who says what children are allowed to enjoy?
Who says what children are allowed to stress?
Who says what's stupid and what isn't?

This entire thing is a slippery slope because you can use the same "poverty shaming" arguement to ban Iphone X, Nintendo/PS4/Xbox, etc.


You do not govern these things for other people, regardless of how badly you want to.
If you have a problem with the way other people consume name brands, easy fix, don't follow in their footsteps
