That's the crazy thing; over here they're all in uniforms. Jackets (along with shoes, haircuts and jewellery) are the only signifiers of individuality and or wealth for schoolkids in the U.K.

Exactly. They may not be able to wear name brand clothes at school, but they'll still talk about the s**t they got, and when you see them after school/on the weekends, they'll be rocking that s**t.

Ultimately, there's gonna be a hierarchy in school no matter what. Whether it's how many chicks you f**k, how good you are at sports, the people you know, your physical appearance, what your lifestyle is outside of school, etc. It just won't be as visible to outsiders.
