It wasn't the vast amounts of civilizations that pre-date Islam by 15,000 to 1000 years?

Those other civilizations aren't discounted due to current ignorance, the way Muslim groups... especially Black Muslim groups are. Those other groups are marveled at, not discredited and ignored.

It should be ignored. It means nothing. People had already understood the premise of orbits. Islam , like every other scientific source at the time, thought the Earth was at the center of the Universe and that most of the other bodies orbit the Earth. They based it on the Ptolemaic model and built on that but it was still geocentrism.

And wrong.

Well, first off, it makes the mistake of saying that the sun goes to rest. This implies several things:

1) The sun orbits the Earth. Wrong.
2) The Sun is not in constant motion. Wrong.
3) There is side (face) of the Earth that never faces the sun. Wrong.

Just because the sun has an orbit doesn't mean it revolves around the Earth. Ever hear of a galactic year? Surely the sun is in motion. But if scripture seems to favor Earth it's because it was written for Earth's inhabitants. Why would it speak from a sun-dweller's point of view? One would think you friends lived in the cosmos the way your concerns suddenly shift towards quasars when discussing simple matters of the heart. Scripture is a criterion for right and wrong, not an astronomy text book. It's explained in simple terms, so that you may then investigate and marvel at the creation, the "how". The moon and sun each swim in an orbit. Any scientist would agree this is true.
