Man, everything you said is gospel. I’m fortunate to have the family I have. They made sure they gave me and my siblings every support network possible to make it into adulthood.
It may be more of a class thing than race but when I started hanging out with rich kids, the difference between them and the people in the hood was opportunity. Their parents, even the ones that came to the country with nothing, made sure they had every chance to exceed: trust funds, saved up money for their first home, college etc.
Now of course there were those that already had rich families, but for those who started off broke, they made sure their values when it came to finances were in the right place.
Chris Rock has a good joke:
“When you’re young, you’re mommy’s little boy. When you turn 18, you become that nikka around the house. Why haven’t you found a job yet.”
shyt is sad but accurate.
It really boggles the mind. It’s crazy how people talk about white supremacy this and that, but don’t try to give their kids EVERY tool they can to battle the shyt. We think we just gotta keep our kids alive to 18, and they should be good.
