In London.

Not sure what people expect to achieve by standing on the streets protesting a democratically elected prime minister.
Especially one that won with an overwhelming majority.
Im reading about protesters in the streets shouting "not my prime minister" after the general election results.

Sad.
fukk off, republicans did that shyt with Obama for years.

He was democratically elected, but protests are also a part of a democracy.

Get over it.

Looks like Starmer is going to try to position himself as the guy who can bring the different factions of the Labour party together. I think he's better positioned to do that than anyone else I can think of.

But beyond his political ideology, here's why I think Starmer is a good choice:

He appears competent and professional.

I think Corbyn was portrayed (unfairly, in large part) as incompetent, and that really hurt him. It didn't matter what Labour was offering to do when the party was constantly in chaos. A large part of that was due to Labour politicians openly trashing/disagreeing with Corbyn, and a large part of that was Brexit making it impossible for Labour to find a position that could work. But Corbyn didn't help matters.

Rightly or wrongly, Starmer gives off the appearance of professionalism and competence. He seems like a Prime Minister type. I think superficial things like that are stupid, but it matters to the average voter, and it might be why Starmer emerges as the best choice:

- He seems electable

- He can unite the party

The average voter makes decisions about who to vote for in a stupid way. This is probably due to a combination of reasons:

1. They might just be stupid

2. They might not be stupid, but they have busy lives and aren't really paying attention to politics very closely. Policy and details matters less than how someone "appears."

This is not a controversial point. People vote based on personality.

How exactly?

1. Short term it will weaken the pound. No way around that, but, the weaker pound will also make British exports more competitive. UK exporters can now sell their goods cheaper and increase their profit margins. Which can revive the country's industries.
2. Also, the UK government proposed lowering the corporate tax rate to 15 percent to encourage business to invest in the British economy. Britain currently levies a 20 percent tax iirc. A five percent tax cut might make the country one of the most competitive global economies.
3. Would be EU contributuions can now be spent on what britiush people really want...
4. No more forced immigration which will weaken the racist.
5. The EU could collapse.
