"Eastern Europeans are taking our jobs!" In the wake of the Brexit referendum, this is the attitude of certain UK citizens who themselves once were migrants. As DW's Jaafar Abdul-Karim found out.

"I was told over and over again by UK citizens of Arab origin that there were too many migrants and foreigners in Britain. They told me that was why they had voted for Brexit. Their response when I stated, somewhat perplexed, that they themselves or their parents had once come to Britain as foreigners was that they were different and they were now British."

Boris Johnson just single handedly killed conservatism in the UK for the next 30 years. I really, really do not think they thought through what leaving the ENTIRE global financial sector and trade unions would do to a country who's entire economy has been monofocused around being the financial hub of Europe.

Good god.

His play is that he can bang through a general to keep the Brexit Party a viable entity but close enough so that it minimizes vote splitting. But it's a stupid gamble, GE polling is completely chaotic and there's absolutely no indications that they'd be able to form a coalition, so he's hedging his bets by trying to go hardliner on Brexit.

Basically there's almost no avenue for the Tories to get what they want, here. They'll either blink and get a second ref (unlikely) ask for an extension (slightly more likely) or just embrace oblivion and cash out while the cashing out's good (most likely).
