After further thought I’m not mad at it. The EU is a coalition of countries, not states under the thumb of a central government. The EU was mainly formed to permit free trade and to ease the transfer of goods and services across borders. I feel like transfer of labor part originally was there to make it easier for EU citizens to work across the continent but it ended up morphing into every country having to accept illegal immigrants into their borders once they were able to cross and settle into one of the outer peripheral EU countries (Greece, Italy, Spain). Good luck with that. Racism and xenophobia aside, no country wants to accept millions of poor unskilled labor. And then it’s just not natural to have countries with their own national agendas and domestic needs having to acquiesce to what Brussels and Berlin wanted. Imagine the US being tied to Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean in that way. Wouldn’t last a century.
