Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels?

I dunno I always watched this promo and took it as Shawn getting Bret flustered, Bret botched delivering the line

Gotta give it to Bret
Hogan leaving left incredibly big shoes to fill. Bret became my guy man for real.
He was the first wrestler who made me pay attention to his wrestling skills. Before that I was all macho man and hogan. Punches. Ad handles. Elbow drops. Let drops.
Bret literally became the excellence of execution.
His Raw match with 123 kid. Wm10 with owen. Vs hakushi. Vs. pco. Vs diesel. Vs austin.
His shyt seemed real. Shawn had more flash but hitman had a believability factor; especially with stu hart being his dad.
The whole hart family was something wrestling never saw before as I was a fan of the entire group and legacy... even to this day... all from what bret did in the ring.
All other outside the ring stuff aside, dude was a good role model for kids and a real positive influence.
Shawn to me didnt really hit brets level until mid 97 and he was shot by then. By the time he came back I had lost intrest.
So i really cant judge it too fairly cuz I didnt watch shawns latter years like that just here and there. i know the taker matches are considered classic (neither better than his HIAC match in 97). WWF tv was just wow by that time. The dx reunion was so trash.
I do understsnd why people put shawn over bret because shawn was a bumping machine and could work big men too but bret was super reliable and could work any match too just maybe he wasnt looking like a rag doll out there.
Will say bret never intentionally ruined a match way hbk did vs hogan. If I was vince mcmahon i would never let guy wrestle again because he made the main event look like a joke for his own personal reasons. Glad i didnt pay 40 bucks for that one.

And I can see the argument for HBK for sure. He's better on paper, no doubt. More exciting style, more versatile.
But Bret just had an it factor that HBK didn't. More believable. Edgier. 97 heel Bret alone is better than anything HBK has ever been a part of.

I'm more of a Bret fan so I will go with him.
When i first watched WrestleMania X on vhs back in the day and saw Bret wrestle 2 matches in the same night against Owen and Yoko...that shyt blew my mind.
Shawn was more flashy and charismatic but I just related more to Bret.

Random but HBK's (and HHH's) antics during this promo is why I wouldn't put him over Bret either. You could argue Bret was too "serious" most of his career but he'd never try and undercut and no-sell a promo by acting goofy like HBK and HHH tried to do here.
It's one thing to act unimpressed by a promo, it's another to act like a bunch of clowns because they want to be the "cool kids". See also what @ig88 said about the Hogan match.
Considering how Shawn bombed as the top guy? You're right..it shouldn't be close. The whole reason Austin is who he is....is because Michaels failed as the centerpiece.
When Bret returned to Raw in 2010, the reaction he got and Shawn got is basically how the world will always see them.
Bret was a failure as a draw himself. It’s partly why arguing over these two dudes like people still do is pretty pointless: they were both very talented guys who were perfectly designed to play number two and not be true aces in a promotion like WWF/E themselves (and there’s no shame in that; not everyone can be an Austin, Rock, or even Cena). Someone who keeps your attention and entertains you, often highly, when someone else has already brought you in.
Also 2010 saw Bret embarrass the hell out of himself at Mania to a crowd that gave no fukks and then had a terrible run that burned out a lot of favor after. It’s only because he’s smartly stayed away from being regularly featured since that he’s been able to curry it back.

Bret was never the top guy in the company. Only reason he won the title at WM X was because Luger shyt the bed.
Shawn was the undisputed man in 96. I dont care about the financial well being of the company, ill let marks like you worry about it.
Shawn was always more entertaining and always had better matches with a wider variety of opponents.
But you hate shawn so its pointless arguing the point
