If you don't care about having the latest and greatest in phones, go with a prepaid plan.
If you want to have a phone that will last you a good 5+ years with good data plans and good signals, finance your phone with Easypay/Next/Installment Billing and put decent down payments on them after every other month or so. You'll have an affordable plan on a phone that you'll have for quite some time.

Unlimited everything with sprint is $60 for me. I get another $6 off thru my job So $54 a month plus taxes.

Verizon ~$75 a month for 3GB of data with unlimited talk/text with an iPhone 6S (work got me the phone discounted). $45 premium + $20 line fee + phone insurance.
I got tired of Sprint and finally left after 16 years with them. I joined AT&T Wireless. I can't do Verizon as my work phone is Verizon and in some of the places I work Verizon gets no coverage. I can't do T-Mobile because I got a coworker with them and he says it's trash round here.
I was paying $60 a month on Sprint for unlimited everything and 50GBs of hotspot. I took a major L on the hotspot cause AT&T gives me unlimited everything and 15GBs of hotspot for $80 a month. I did get to cancel my VRV sub and AT&T is now giving me that free so I'm basically paying $10 more than with Sprint. The coverage is better though. Sprint was giving me speeds so bad I might as well have been on Cricket with their 8GB LTE cap. Sprint was slower than that in most places and didn't work in a lot of places at all.
I'll give Sprint and T-Mobile some time to sort it all out and if they improve combined I might go back. It's nice to be able to switch between my phones without having to contact my carrier.
