Been meaning to ask you your opinion on this fragrance shyt. In your opinion do you think most of this is just a scam especially when it comes to the notes and what's suppose to be in the majority of these fragrances? I ask b/c I'm running into a lot of frags where they specifically be saying certain notes are in frags and they be some bold face lies man. shyt be having Amber or Fig in the name and you find no traces of it. They even put it in the note break down and it still isn't there.

SOTD-Cola Fizz in Tonka Beans (hilarious name for their version of Tonka Cola but it isn't bad at all and strong as hell)
Scam--- Yes

Based on playing on people's need to use merchandise classism.

The perception of the quality by the brand and consumers being based off the price point makes the scam work.

As far as notes: there are some notes that literally don't exist and you will never get anything to smell like it. Fig is a note that is used and almost always smells like the leaves of the fig tree or the tree itself.
Manos Gerakinis: MEΘEXIS The only fragrance I have with Fig as a note that has a fig fruit type scent. And even then, it is cheating because it has black currant and dried fruits as notes also. All other Fig note frangrances I have smell like green leaves or trees.

Expensive prefume a scam, especially when this shyt now in Parfum concentration don't even last as long as EDT concentration like 2005 and earlier.

That's why I buy shyt at a certain price point that I know is good and get shyt I can from discounters. The top famous brands everybody gas up, I don't even consider.

:martin: A lot of these niche scent profiles don't make sense to me.

These niche fragrance notes can be like

Top - Californian Bergamot, Jamaican Orange, Turkish Rose, Italian Jasmine, Martian chocolate
Mid - Iranian Frankincense, Willy Wonka Jelly Beans, and North Korean Tonka,
Base - Alaskan Oud, Egyptian Musk, North American Cedar and Vegan Leather

Name - Under the Clouds Sailing the Ocean.

Perfumer - Some French Dude with a nice moustache who take all his photos in black and white.

Price Tag - $50,000 for 5ml retail $49,999.99 discounter.
full

Expected Smell -
full
From the name and price would expect a fresh, airy aromatic aquatic and luxurious scent.

Actual smell - Smell like you spilled orange juice and candy on your shirt while walking in a flower meadow with a leather jacket on.

Working through the Pineward

Morning - Funerie

I had T.Rex on yesterday - which is heavy on leather, resins, incense and cade oilt
This is very much in that same zone. Heavy on the leather and smoke. If you like Beaufort London joints, this is like that.
All of these are in the Dior Fahrenheit/Tom Ford Tuscan leather frame of mind. They don't smelll like them, of course, but strong, power, last long, not sweet, "hell and back" type fragrances to me.

Notes
  • Morel mushroom
  • decayed rose
  • leather
  • tobacco
  • smoke
  • pineboard
  • incense
  • sweet myrrh
  • blood cedar
  • dried needles
  • rotting wood (oud).

Evening - Revelries

Notes
: rum, clove, cinnamon, oud, hazelnut, raisin, green apple.

The raisin stands out to me the most. Oud and Rum are definitely there, don't detect the apple or the spices though.

A smidge sweeter than the morning scent.

Base Notes: Pink Pepper, Amber, Woods

Quality: Spice, Gourmand, Bold

I like this. This smells like smoky suede and just the right amount of spices. I don't get any caramelized sugar or orange.

Fragrance houses should re-release things that they discontinued.

You gotta learn from McDonalds. Every once in a while they come out with the McRib announcement. And that creates a buzz. It doesn't matter if you think the McRib is trash. People buy that shyt. And they get other items too. I bet revenue goes up like a MF for a few weeks.

You can't tell me that if Mugler drops a limited supply of Pure Havane, that shyt won't get scooped up in a month. It might not be profitable to keep it as a main line for 10 years. But for a few weeks or months of a year? That's gonna sell.

SOTD - Pineward - Steading

From the site.

Notes: tobacco, hay, beeswax, barley, dried needles, poplar, hops, maple, and wisps of peat smoke.
A dense wheaty tobacco perfume with dried fir needles and honeyed maple sweetness.

Tobacco + Maple and Honey - Too Sweet for me.

Prolly wash this off and put on a citrus bomb like D&G Light Blue or Terre de Hermes

Afternoon edit - after my mid day run - that maple is hitting like a mug. Nice dry down :ehh:
