I wouldn't recommend spending too much on clippers. You might not like doing it yourself but if you buy an expensive set you will just waste money.
I bought [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-79300-400-Color-Complete-Haircutting/dp/B000JNQSIQ/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1353641550&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=wajl+clippers"]these Wahl clippers[/ame] on Amazon for about $22 and it already paid for itself (I usually spend $15 for a cut and $5 for the tip). It's cheap but way more durable than I was expecting. Plus, it's color-coded and that just makes it easier

I've been growing it for 2-3 weeks, usually get it cut once a week.
For now Ima just lower it a lil bit to see how I do,
if im successful than i'll give it a light fade and let the top grow in.
kinda like ^that but not as high on top.

a nikka i used to work with told me back when he was younger when he was running from the law he would cut his own hair cause he had no choice,he became a master at it, the only problem is lining the back of your head he said, still does it after 20 years

I actually have one of those. I'd say its one of THE essential things to get if you're going to cut your hair, after the actual clippers of course. Works great.
