if u gonna start out u gonna have to rock an even all over
how erver long u want ur hair to grow go a guard size longer and cut against the grain, then come back with the proper guard and go with the grain and clean everything up

Breh, I've been cutting my own hair for the past 2 years.
It's easier than it looks all you need is another mirror so you can cut the back of your head effectively. If you have gaurds (which always come with some clippers) and clippers that are adjustable then you should be fine
Line ups are pretty simple too just make sure not to push you lining back
tapering is a bit difficult and can take a while to learn (took me about a year to get it and im still not perfect) but they got a bunch of videos on Youtube to learn . But for right now I'd say don't do it. Its all trial & error

fukk that, only time i cut my own hair is when im goin with the bald look. I tried lining myself up a few times but i cant get it jus lookin in the mirror.

I hate them guards that are flimsy and when you press down trying to cut your hair they buckle and gap you...anyone got a link online to a solid pair of clippers that come with guards that are STRONG, and anyone got another link to something that will give you a steve Harvey lining
Learning how to cut my own hair is one of the better skills I've learned. Saves time and money. O, and you don't have to worry about getting your haircut from someone that is not your usual barber.
Shaping up isn't difficult. And the back isn't as hard as I used to think, even then, if you mess up the back, most people don't notice it, unless its like a Balrog type hairline.
I'm a little afraid to step up to get my fade game up. Good luck with the clippers though.

Just do a buzz cut and save yourself the time and money.
Been doing it for over a decade. Had my ups and my downs but I learned how to face the music and deal with it. I wish I could go back to my parents house just to cut my hair though. I'm not bad at it at all but I mostly just give myself fades and tapers.Their master bedroom had a bathroom mirror with the mirror from the medicine cabinet followed by the closet door mirror to the side. Just needed to open the closet door to see the back of my head perfectly 
Now its just instinct but its still better than half of the barbers in my city

I've been cutting my own hair since maybe '98. I just cut it every week since it grows so fast and just use a mirror to check when I'm done. It's dead easy if you're just cutting it at one level and not too fussed about shape ups.
Shape ups are not too bad once you get the hang of it. I did fukk up big time when I was young and was about to meet some girl. I wanted to shape up myself because I didn't have much money...my front ended up looking like the batman signal
I just threw a hat on and saved myself the humiliation at school the next day...my mom was like WTF did you do? She fukking laughed at me man.
