I've built a bunch of PC's for people, but most of them were non gamers. How much does it usually set you back to build a PC that can run most games today? I've been away from the PC gaming scene since 2005.
you can get a $300 build that will run any game and be ivy bridge compatible down the line.

Nah you can pretty much get top-of-the-line everything for less than 2 g's. I mean unless you going for a liquid cooled 690 sli rig.
