im glad you posted the pierrot fight. spike was getting rocked the whole time. that fukker was clearly from another series the way he was clowning spike. hit him with aerial combos, fukker had a reflector on him and he was armed to the teeth.

I was scared shytless of that guy as a kid. He just wouldn’t die

I’m a pretty casual anime person, and I recently watched Champloo for the 1st time (loved) and jumped right into this, but I just can’t get into it for some reason.
Its hard to explain. I felt that way at first.
But its like after actually finishing and rewatching you just realize in everything in its entity.
Like the story is not some ground breaking plot twist. It's pretty simple yet creative for its time.
Then you throw in how amazing the characters are, especially spike.
The demons characters deal with.
The comdey mixed in.
The fun side adventures in the show.
The soundtrack.
The designs.

Its just one of those series that don't catch your eye on how classic it is until you fully digest it.

The episodic nature of the show can be a tough sell. You gotta get through off the strength of the characters, soundtrack, and quality of the individual stories with this one.

The show just oozes cool and that English dub came down from the heavens :blessed:

In my opinion after a few watches of the series you just enjoy everything in the journey of the story.

Yoko Kanno is the soundtrack Goddess :wow:. Watanabe ccould be the Goat director :wow:

There’s some stuff I don’t care for, but the good far outweighs the bad

I ask this about Akira all the time. Can't believe they made this in 88.

But yes Bebop and Champloo are my 1A and 1B
What is the definitive version of Akira.?

Movies/Shows are like people.

Some are visually dazzling, yet soulless

And some are basically good looking, yet have so much personality and soul that it makes them A1 forever.

Right now there's so much you can do with technology, that creatives sit down and think of all the visual effects they can execute, and then the plot gets based around those ideas, instead of the other way around...

it's becomes an exhibition of computing power, so story takes a backseat

and if you don't enjoy the story, the effects can only do so much.

Back then, tech was limited, and more painstaking

which means if you were developing idea for a movie or show, your imagination isn't leaning on the effects and spectacle

you had to already know where you wanted the story to go in your head, and then use the technology to execute. The technology was a means to an already thought-out end, and not just some vfx people trying to stunt

I don't give a fukk how powerful the effects are, Vfx should ALWAYS take a backseat to writing. The writing should NEVER take a backseat to visual effects.

and alot of modern creatives don't understand that
