Movies/Shows are like people.
Some are visually dazzling, yet soulless
And some are basically good looking, yet have so much personality and soul that it makes them A1 forever.
Right now there's so much you can do with technology, that creatives sit down and think of all the visual effects they can execute, and then the plot gets based around those ideas, instead of the other way around...
it's becomes an exhibition of computing power, so story takes a backseat
and if you don't enjoy the story, the effects can only do so much.
Back then, tech was limited, and more painstaking
which means if you were developing idea for a movie or show, your imagination isn't leaning on the effects and spectacle
you had to already know where you wanted the story to go in your head, and then use the technology to execute. The technology was a means to an already thought-out end, and not just some vfx people trying to stunt
I don't give a fukk how powerful the effects are, Vfx should ALWAYS take a backseat to writing. The writing should NEVER take a backseat to visual effects.
and alot of modern creatives don't understand that
