If it's something I'm into then I put the phone down and close my computer. If it's just some shyt on TV or an episode I've seen a buck of times then it doesn't matter.

I would sometimes do this and it would irritate me. I try to leave my phone on the kitchen counter so I can't reach it. But that's mainly during sporting events I might be browsing my phone. It's fukking annoying. I hate smart phones.

Elaborate.
Being able to watch a whole season of a TV show in a week or even less is a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing in that, obviously, you don't have to wait as long to see how things play out. But it's a curse in that singular episodes no longer matter. You remember the highlights during the season and you remember the end. I've found it muddies the reviews of the overall season. Read each House of Cards thread here and read a Game of Thrones or other weekly show thread. You get very simplistic reviews and opinions on seasons of Netflix shows, but shows where you're waiting a week to watch tend to leave a more indelible mark on your memory and end up being more lasting. Binge watching in any form (DVR, streaming) falls under the same umbrella. When singular episodes aren't getting the full attention they deserve, can a full season really be judged the right way?

I'm funna binge watch the fukk outta this season of Game of Thrones:steviej:

smart phones are ruining everything...

I wake up, phone alarm goes off, i grab it, browse sites for 10 minutes before getting up.

Watch tv, have phone in hand.

Ponder a thought, immediately grab phone, google, and have it answer for me

Also I don't take as many pictures as most people, but i literally never took pictures prior to phones and more than 1 is a lot for me. I don't need to stop and say "that cloud looks like a dikk, i should take a pic and share it on twitter with a #clouddikk hashtag

I find myself doing this. Honestly, watching foreign films is great re-training b/c I have to watch the screen to read the sub titles. Also watching on my ipad or computer is a great way to focus my attention. I watched the entire series of the wire on my ipad and I know I would have missed stuff if it was on my tv.

Sidenote: I remember my teacher telling us that tv shows are written in a way that they assume people will be multitasking. So it's written so that you'll know what's happening even when you aren't looking at the screen. Movies, tend to be more visual. Now this is changing as shows are starting to become more cinematic but I thought it was interesting.

When I bought my new galaxy, the people at the store transferred all my data for me. The guy got distressed, he said 'oh no, it only transferred about 20 of your pics' Then when I told them that was all I had, they were all confused, like 'wow i've never seen a phone with that few photos'

Having said that, I love my smart phone. And this coming from someone who refused to buy one for years.

the thing that bothers me most is the gift and curse of having every bit of information ever in my pocket. it's convenient but at the same time, I feel like I'm never gonna think on my own again. used to love having to track down a nugget in my brain, tell people to "let me think, it'll come to me." now i just lose patience and google it most of the time.

It isn't the phones it's the people. You have to make the choice to pick it up or put it down when watching a show/movie. If what you are watching isn't good enough to hold your full attention watch something else. If you choose to pick up your phone to do something else while watching that same show the phone isn't ruining a good show it's letting you put up with a bad one.

I don't think it's that simple. Often times, I'll be enjoying something fine, but I get titchy, like my hands need to be doing something.

it's more of a 'we need to re-learn how to sit still and focus' rather than pick something more intersting. This technology is affecting our attention spans.

I think it only ruins the discussion and anticipation. You notice oitnb threads are never poppin because everyone is at different points. Sometimes there is also regret. Last year i finished s2 in a weekend and was like wtf am i gonna watch next.

I think daredevil did it well. Cant pinpoint how but nothing was lost for me by binge watching

I'm a movie lover. Nothing more infuriating than watching a movie with someone and they're on their phone.

....then they have the nerve to ask: "Wait, what, just happened? "

:aicmon:

Wifey kills me with that... :mindblown:
