In an all-out diplomatic effort to head-off full-blown war throughout the entire Middle East, an American delegation flew into Iran and met in secret with high-ranking Iranian officials last Thursday.
The US delivered a message of "calm and warning" to the Iranians and urged them to not launch too big of a retaliatory missile/drone attack on Israel for Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran on Wednesday.
As a show of good faith, the Americans divulged a list of 10 Israeli spies they believed were involved in Haniyeh's assassination and were still in Iran.
The American delegation also told the Iranians the US did not "green light" the hit on Haniyeh and that Pres. Joe Biden was furious at Netanyahu for it.
According to Al-Jarida, "the Americans had reached the conclusion that the latter's presence in power does not serve global security and peace." The US delegation added "the Biden administration wants to make fundamental changes and draw new regional equations that exclude the current Israeli Prime Minister, before the end of its term."
Netanyahu, the US delegation explained, was "trying to escape forward and create escalation with the aim of dragging the entire region" into a war. If Iran attacked Israel, that would only strengthen Netanyahu and the US would be forced to defend Israel. They said they hoped Iran won't "fall into the Israeli Prime Minister's trap."
The Iranians told the American delegation they would think about it.
The meeting lasted two hours and took place at the Payam Airport in Karaj, according to al-Jarida's source, reported to be a "senior" official in the Iranian Supreme National Security Council
As if all that wasn't enough to make it THE foreign policy story of the year, the American delegation, according to the council official, also told Iran:
"Netanyahu had revealed his plan to a number of senior Zionist lobbies during his recent visit to Washington, where he informed them of his belief that the time had come for a major war, which does not only mean Israel and the United States against Iran and its allies, but all the countries of the region, including the Arab and Gulf states, Turkey and African countries."
"Netanyahu claimed that the outbreak of this major holocaust would force everyone to sit at one table, to accept a comprehensive settlement that includes 'Israel’s right to exist and its recognition by all in exchange for a comprehensive peace for all parties.'”
Netanyahu also urged his allies in America "that during that war, all the infrastructure of the countries of the region could be destroyed before reaching a comprehensive settlement, followed by American companies benefiting from the large-scale reconstruction process."
When Pres. Biden told him to accept a ceasefire, bring the remaining hostages home and declare victory, Netanyahu decided on his own to assassinate Haniyeh and force an escalation.
