Had to be pure pettiness because otherwise I don’t see how you pass on the Lakers picks unless you think LeBron will still be playing 4 years from now.
Nets don’t own their picks so they can’t tank. The Lakers offer of Westbrook does nothing for the Nets (absolutely terrible fit) and the three team deal with the Spurs doesn’t do anything either because they have 0 need for Poetl with Nic Claxton balling out .. .those lakers picks could be nice but it’s years down the road .

The Mavs offer allows them to be somewhat competitive for the remainder of the year while still getting a future pick that might be valuable if shyt goes left in Dallas…also Spencer and DFS can be flipped in the future if necessary.

In reality the Lakers had the third best offer after Dallas and Phoenix when you look at the whole picture.

Dallas by way of Houston by way of San Antonio
The Lakers offered the Nets a package of Westbrook and two first-round picks in 2027 and 2029.. the Nets informed the Lakers that.. to get in the Irving sweepstakes they would require all of their young players such as Austin Reaves and Max Christie and pick swaps

Teams will trade for garbage but ask Lakers to pay for mortgage cmon son :stopitslime:

Lakers offered two firsts with a high chance LeBron won’t be there when it’s time to cash them in. That’s worth more than the 1 Mavs pick which may still have Luka in the picture.

Nets won’t be competitive without KD and he about to request out as well.

That’s 4 and 6 years down the line . The nets currently have no incentive to be a bad team from a basketball or business perspective If they can help it . Westbrook would be a circus ,adding Poetl Would’ve been a headache ..all for some picks a half decade away? I get why they passed.

if KD wants out they can still demand their ransom ...and if he does it at the end of the year thats their best case scenario
