The failure of Reconstruction and the "Redemption " of the South is responsible for everything politically, socially, and economically that has happened to black people for the last 146 years.
In some ways more damaging then slavery itself. I honestly believe if after the civil war we were given our rights and left alone there would be no hard feelings that how woefully benevolent we are as a people :francis:

Slavery doesn't make America unique as most countries in the Americas had African slaves, but that response and retaliation to Reconstruction was vile and uniquely Americana and like you said set Black people back so far behind we're still climbing out that shyt smh

Black folks in power had these people terrified. They are a deeply insecure and cowardly folk......You see it in present day, can't imagine how it was back then,

bytch really gave a "state's rights" answer to the question. In 2023. As the former governor of the state where the Civil War BEGAN.

WOW!
The first state to succeed from the union. The same state that had the fukkin confederate battle flag flying on the capital up until 2015.

Nah. There is a strong possibility that she's doesn't know. :manny: There are a number of people in high positions who are dumb as fyck. Remember Sarah Palin was a governor and close to being a Vice President. Don't automatically assume these folks know what they are talking about.

Don’t give her the benefit of the doubt. She knows what the shyt was about..especially being a representative of South Carolina. She knows damn well what it’s about but she’s caping to her racist voting base.

I was going to post a video but don't want to post the right wing account. Ron fat ass pudding fingers reaction.

Get clowned by the guy that's trying to revise history and banning books brehs :dead:
When DeSantis is calling you out…its time to hang it up.

what does the civil war have to do with anything today? You ask a presidential candidate history class question

You say all this but still will vote for a party that is not willing to give us reparations.

Look at it like this

A question like that is important for any presidential candidate because it shows they know their history, & they aren’t trying to burry it. DeSantis is a piece of shyt but even he called her out on this cause it’s just so ridiculous.

Also for the whole reparations thing…that cannot happen in America because republicans will never go for it.

By her saying it wasn’t about slavery she’s killing the very reason black folks deserve reparations.

I don’t think we’ll see money reparations in our lifetimes. Maybe down the line…but there plenty of programs and bills out there for black folks we can use to our advantage to get a leg up.

serious question: how do black people who want to sit out or vote GOP in 2024 justify this? somethings are just DOA for me. :hubie:
So all you ask for from the other side is acknowledgement? Seriously, The bar for democrats is so low in the black community it embarrassing. I still stand firmly on not giving a fukk about any party but the way we constantly bash the RepubliKKKans who have made it clear that they don't fukk with us, yet give the Democrats a pass just because they take pics with us is pathetic. I wish we would just admit that we vote out of fear/tradition instead of actual tangible reasons.

Hell, if Black people had been given land and left alone, we would be one of the most economically successful groups in the world. Our labor made the South one of the wealthiest, if not the wealthiest society in human history. "Cotton-pickers" fueled the Industrial Revolution with the cotton they harvested and prepared for the world market. You should look into the Exoduster movement, particularly in Oklahoma, which looked for a minute was gonna be a state dominated by Black folk and Native Americans.

no shyt it was a business decision.

but the business was the problem.

what's next? People trying to justify sex trafficking because it's profitable :snoop:

There can be no justification. Ever.

If you're going to tackle this kind of problem, you have to identify the nature of it. To us, how it's affected us and our development is one thing. To them, collectively, the obsession with commerce and the "freedom" they believe it brings is the infection that leads them to continually deny others their very humanity. Slavery, three-fifths "compromises", everyday discrimination, you already know the drill. Whether they actually believe it or not is beyond the point, they've repeated the lie for so long they have no choice but to stand by it. That is the nature of their infection. Money is their god, and all manner of folly flows from that.

Far, far too many others have gone along with that infection thinking they'll find acceptance/prosperity/safety of some kind. You can look around and see just how well that's working.

Haley blames a ‘Democratic plant’ for Civil War question that tripped her up

The former South Carolina governor also said that the war was, indeed, about slavery.

Hours after declining to do so, Nikki Haley said on Thursday morning that she believed slavery was, indeed, the cause of the Civil War. She suggested that the person who had asked her the question the night before was a “Democratic plant.”

“Well, two things on this track. I mean, of course, the Civil War was about slavery. We know that, that’s the easy part of it,” the former South Carolina governor told The Pulse of NH — News Talk Radio Network. “What I was saying was, what does it mean to us today? What it means to us today is about freedom. That’s what that was all about. It was about individual freedom. It was about economic freedom. It was about individual rights. Our goal is to make sure, no, we never go back to the stain of slavery.”

She did not go further in addressing why she did not say as much on Wednesday evening when she appeared at a town hall event in Berlin, New Hampshire. Instead, she posited that she had been set up.

“It was definitely a Democrat plant,” said Haley. “That’s why I said, what does it mean to you? And if you notice, he didn’t answer anything. The same reason he didn’t tell the reporters what his name was.”

Haley’s comments came the morning after she was asked specifically what she thought was the cause of the Civil War, to which she responded that it was “how government was going to run” that sparked the deadliest war in U.S. history.

“I think it always comes down to the role of government and what the rights of the people are,” Haley added. “And I will always stand by the fact that I think government was intended to secure the rights and freedoms of the people.”

The attendee at the town hall event in Berlin, New Hampshire pressed her several times on the matter, growing more impatient that she wouldn’t name slavery as a cause. The attendee told Haley it was “astonishing” she did not mention slavery in her answer.

“What do you want me to say about slavery?” she responded. She then asked for the next question.

The answer quickly got national attention, with President Joe Biden posting “It was about slavery” with the clip of Haley on X, formerly known as Twitter. An account for Gov. Ron DeSantis posted “Yikes” in response to Haley’s comments.
