it’s basically June lol.. losing time despite the reports.
It will start in July, I will agree with you if they dont make a decision in the next 3 weeks. Both the owners and players want the season to continue, right now they are just stuck on the format

This is late as hell man

The longer they wait, the less time they have to negotiate the new CBA. The owners could literally pull an MLB and the players wouldn’t have time to do much about it if they plan on starting the season on Christmas.

I’m starting to believe that it’s intentional on the NBA’s part.

Realistically, they couldn't start next month (June), so sometime in July would be the earliest. Speculation was mid-July... so late July is a couple weeks later than predicted but without context what does that really mean?

i.e. If that's the start of the playoffs or play-in tournament, i think that's reasonable because that means mid-June through late-July is player relocation and training camp/exhibition period. However if July 31st is the date for training camp... then i agree that's a bit odd, because then the season would't start until late August.

Windhorst: NBA to 'Make Sure' Zion Williamson, Pelicans Involved in Playoff Plan

I guess my question is more so the format they are planning on finishing out the season. The Pelicans are 3.5 games back and competing with other teams to catch Memphis. If they really wanted Zion in the playoffs, do you do a play-in tournament or have more games to see if they can catch them? Even still, you’re not leaving much time to work out the new CBA.

The owners could literally try and fukk over the players if they wanted to like baseball is doing especially since the new CBA would have to be built from scratch. It takes years to pass a new CBA and now they are expected to do it in a matter of months. It’s a recipe for disaster.

The NBA is next in line for a comeback.

Days after the NHL announced its plan for a 24-team playoff tournament, NBA commissioner Adam Silver informed the board of governors that the league is targeting resuming play on July 31, according to The Athletic. The NBA, which was the first major sports league to suspend its season on March 11 after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the novel coronavirus, appears likely to hold all games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in Orlando.

The NBA’s board of governors met Friday to discuss restart plans, but no final determination has been made regarding the format to be used for the rest of the season. A survey among general managers found most executives wish to jump right into the playoffs, according to multiple reports, potentially allowing 14 of the league’s 30 teams to avoid traveling to the isolated site.

Three other scenarios remain in play, including a World Cup-like Group Stage with 20 teams, a play-in tournament for the final seeds and the conclusion of a 72-game regular season, allowing all teams to participate and collect revenue from regional TV deals, which kicks in after 70 games.
