The supermax is fine the way it is. Just make it more difficult in who qualifies for it.

Besides, the owners could have theoretically said no to giving out those deals. I mean the Clippers essentially did.

Let's not forget that Philly also did the same thing in giving PJ Tucker 3 years fully guaranteed at age 37 and why he's still in the league till this day.
If the Mavs didn't want to give top 5 player in Luka a supermax, who else will get one?

The Mavericks could have given Luka that supermax and still moved him down the line. They just bytched out I’m doing so.

Luka deserved that supermax, but others like PG in his current form don’t.

On the low, was Luka headed down a different path -more injury prone and even less conditioning- if given the supermax? He just got a wakeup call that sh*t isn't sweet and now he's motivated and knows he can't just pack on the pounds and everyone still loves him no matter what, especially in LA. This trade seems almost like an intervention as well.

Mehhh other teams would have gladly gave it to him. That’s why I’d be furious if I was Luka.

At least someone like Mitchell wanted out of Utah before he got his bread.

The Supermax will be discussed and possibly eliminated as well.
Why the owners made that to ensure there wasn’t a health situation and they could keep their stars. Just cause the Mavs fukked it up doesn’t mean the system doesn’t work. They would have kept Luka with the supermax.

I think the health concerns have been overstated. It was a confluence of events with the Adelson's not being basketball people and not thinking Luka was worth it, shytty RSN deal, Nico having a crush on AD.

I think some reworking of supermax is coming but not because of the Luka shyt. But because of shyt that happened with Embiid and having to make decisions on players like LaMelo (unsure if he will qualify).

Only people stealing are half of these FOs. Nobody put guns to their heads and made them sign these deals. We really gonna act surprised that a 34 year old PG fresh off avg 53 games a season in LA is missing games? That aint stealing...thats giving :pachaha:. Every CBA is more bailouts for bad management. They have more than enough protections...and still keep doing dumb shyt...and still keep looking to the players to bail em out some more :camby:

PG did play in 74 games last season, but him actively valuing his podcast over being on the court is going to make him the prime example for why they need to add caveats to max/supermax deals.

I agree. It was mainly for the smaller markets who needed to overpay so their homegrown stars didn't bolt to bigger markets, but with this new CBA and the new style of team building, and if the star can't stay healthy or doesn’t move the needle for them anymore, they're not going to want to pay a supermax and have most of their salary tied into one or two guys like Philly with PG & Embiid.

I agree but I think a Luka supermax would have to be like Zion's max deal with certain measures he has to meet asks fullfill, that's if his conditioning and "habits" were supposedly getting worse and worse each season.

Luka was still out here putting up All NBA first team performances even when those conditioning and habits, so I wouldn't necessarily group him in with Zion.

Besides, a lot of these stories are just hit pieces from the Mavericks anyways to try and dodge criticism and controversy for the trade.

I agreed that Luka should've gotten the supermax from Dallas, but when he limped off the court on the Christmas day game that turned everything upside down. There's only a handful of unconditional no questions asked supermax guys like Giannis, SGA, Jokic, Ant Edwards, and soon to be Wemby. It should be Luka too, but honestly I think it's a fair for a team to ask themselves do they want to pay a player 5 years/$350 million with weight issues. They just needed to come to, sit down, and work something out. Giving him a max $200 million deal was probably no issue, but the supermax had them like :patrice: :unimpressed:
