the subway is uh, definitely not fine lmao

ive been traversing this city solo for 15 years now. the first 5 years i was a student that primarily took the bus (which only has a leg up over the train because you aren't trapped in a tube underground), and the majority of the remaining decade, i was required to get up and report to a site or office of some sort and relied almost exclusively on MTA trains to do so. my current job requires me to be in lower manhattan 2 to 3 times a week. i share all that to say that i am a regular, seasoned straphanger and not just someone pontificating on the net.

the subway is cooked.

i regularly have to switch train cars to avoid fuccery included but not limited to...

  • people openly engaging in drug use
  • people (typically men) exposing themselves and flat out sexually assaulting other riders
  • people pissin and shyttin openly (note: none of these things are occurring on "empty trains")
  • people fuccin, smoking, blasting music, ignoring basic etiquette, feeling that their bag is entitled to a seat, etc.
  • bodily oders so rancid that people are gagging
  • folks obviously looking to crash and looking for passenger to collide with
i had a conversation with my mom about it a few weeks ago and she says that she's surprised how people are just accepting the deterioration of basic infrastructure that we all pay into. the fact that there are folks out there okay with the nyc subway seemingly returning to it 1980s form is wild to me :manny:
MTA is cooked in the Bronx it feels like only a minority pay for this shyt :wow:

Seeing needles in the train station is a regular thing

They bout to raise the fare too

Thank you. I’ve taken it regularly all over for 20 years and have never experienced a major incident. Certainly that is anecdotal (though the same with my friends who do), and one incident is a shame for those who suffer but proportionality in a city the size of NYC is something many struggle with. As such the vultures who utilize fear to their advantage are able to do so.
You're wrong, A LOT of incidents don’t get reported.

What a heinous act, pure evil and sadistic, prayers and thoughts to the victims friends and relations. The city and state government officials have to be more proactive in enacting public security to ensure people who use public transportation are safe from harassment or violent threats. This stations and subway trains needs to be guarded by police officers and law enforcement agencies at all times .

3.6 million people ride the subway every day

Let’s say several hundred major (violent) incidents a day aren’t reported (I’d say that’s high but for the sake of argument)

That would still come out to about 0.013% of riders affected on a daily basis.

Again a lot of people simply don’t know how to analyze numbers when in large amounts.

Breh, you are going by numbers, I'm going by real life experience from folks I know. Again, you are wrong.

Yes I’m going by the numbers and you’re going by conjecture. I told you about my and folks I know’s experiences as well. Difference is I’m not using them to tell you you’re wrong. The numbers do that.

Numbers don’t tell the whole story. I'll go by what I see riding regularly & what folks who work/ride see regularly

So to recap: your anecdotal evidence is superior to mine and the actual percentage of riders affected using the actual numbers is meaningless. Gotcha. Guess we’ll agree to disagree.

I ride the SEPTA and see all kinds of disgusting and deviant behavior. I had to put hands on someone for trying me...but I digress...

I'm sick of these bums and crazies infesting living spaces like roaches...
