thats stupid. $40k aint shyt to a 4/5 star recruit. the amount of publicity and attention you get from college is ridiculous.
uh, it's call disruption, nothing stupid about it. you're short sighted if you can't see how that would work.
aint nobody saying everything would change overnight...but if all the 5 star talent goes from high school to the minors, they'd be in the same position as college. tv would be forced to pick up these games since this is where the talent would be. college stardom/publicity/attention only exists because that's the only viable place top high school talent can go. if all the d-1 power conference talent was in a minor league, that's where eyes will be. furthermore they'd be free to accept the gifts, cash, etc. from agents/boosters, could have endorsements, and make money off their name - appearances, autographs, jersey sales, etc. can't take people seriously who don't see how a changing the paradigm to something like this (minor leagues) is immensely better for at least college football and basketball players.
if the minors really popped off, it would also pressure the NCAA to change their rules - let kids who had a "pro career" still be eligible for scholarships. kids could still go to play for NCAA teams AFTER the minors when it's clear they're not getting drafted. a 21-26 yr old would have a few more years to play ball/live in the limelight, they at least earned some money during their semi pro career, they'd be more focused on school and the life it can provide afterward since they now chose that path, NCAA teams would still exist just with slightly older talent, kids wouldn't be banging up their bodies, suffering career-ending injuries with nothing to show for it, and lastly, it might provide yet one more chance to gain the attention of NFL scouts.
