It's actually not the same thing. With Trump all they did was arranged to have the documents returned. Trump gave some of the documents back and pretend he didn't have more. Basically Trump kept lying pretending he didn't have more so they had to send the FBI in to retrieve them.

That's too much complexity for the average American to make sense of. Plus it doesn't help that media isn't properly explaining the difference.
