I think the writers fukked up not leaving any redeeming qualities for Walt. I mean shyt, the audience has to have SOMETHING to like about the main character right?

Nah man. That's their whole gameplan. Vince G. wants Walt to become an outright villain. Not an anti-hero. He wants to take away every one of his redeemable qualities.
