This really needed to be said. I have personal experience with this. My father had a mental illness, he never hurt anyone around him, just himself because it was hell inside his mind. Y'all need to lay off that disgusting generalization that mentally ill people are out here killing people like that. It's a complete cop out and extremely fukked up to say the least.

Did you see the latest issue of Essence Magazine with Jennifer Hudson on the cover? There is an article in there towards the end about someone whose daughter was a gifted young girl who had multiple mental health issues early on and how it got worse when she was molested by a stranger as a little kid. She ended up killing herself...once again showing many times they end up harming themselves before others.

The problem aren't the people who's using legal guns for legal purposes(protection/hunting).

The problem are the illegal guns that find their way into the hands of these people.

A background check is not going to do anything, when I could go out and buy a gun from some nikka on the block.

The guns these mass shooters are using are illegal to own, they're using assault rifles as the weapons that the lawmakers deemed illegal to own.

Think about Chicago, a city with some of the toughest gun control laws. Think about Chicago's murder rate, you think all of the shootings that happened in Chicago over the years irresponsible legal gun owners are to blame?

The victims of the shootings are younger than 18, there's only one gun per household for an adult with a clean background.....there were over 500 homicides in Chicago, less than 20 homicides were done with a legally owned gun. Gun control for legal gun owners doesn't accomplish nothing.

this "Chicago has some of the toughest gun control laws' really needs to stop....people make themselves sound like sheep regurgitating this info without going deep into the reasoning

tell me the 5 states that border Illinois and you will answer your own question....you will have no retort....tell me how lenient gun purchases are in those states....

in addition....let me know about Chicago's poor SENTENCING laws....in addition to gun trafficking not being a federal crime anywhere...

i know your point, but thats the problem. most gun owners aren't responsible.

we need real reform in national gun policy. even more than background checks.

if you really are only using a gun for protection it shouldn't matter.

this is the one thing Barack NEEDS to go extremely PROGRESSIVE on...with the other issues domestically I have given up a bit on that....but I think he understands he needs to be extremely progressive with this...

sorry to be a pessimist but I get a real real real bad feeling that in 2014 its gonna take something worse than Sandy hook for them to do this before if and when the Dems regain the house

ive given up hope that barack is the progressive savior we all expected. even in his second term he's legislated safely. he's so scared of the right wing i don't see it happening unless something ridiculous happens. and then the repubs won't give a fukk and never agree to a bill limiting gun rights.

this is something that has to happen on the local level and then force the national govt to make a stance, like marijuana is right now. in the next presidential cycle i could see real drug reform happening, especially as more states decriminalize and legalize.
