This article right here is heartbreaking. Some poor folks whose grandparents are both missing kept getting calls from their grandparents' landline phones that were next to their beds but they don't hear anything but static when they pick up. It happened 15 times since the building collapsed and they aren't sure if it's a glitch or if they are real calls. Last time they got a call was Friday night and they haven't gotten another call since.

:mjcry:

Missing grandparents’ landline calling from Champlain Towers South condo, family says

I would like to think it doesn't mean anything cause they would have called 911 for help too.

But I can only imagine how that family feels, not being sure...

What in the name of selfish insensitivity is this bullshyt?!?!?!
@Stir Fry ain’t say anything anymore insensitive than what these other douchebags in here have said. You got people in here on some “Those Jew and Cuban Red State Magatards got what they deserved” type stuff. Insensitivity has been all over this thread. Having said that, my scary ass would be hesitant to stay at any high rise building on SoBe that wasn’t built after 2005. I wouldn’t be afraid of staying at the old school shorter low rise Art Deco buildings though.

I'll take my chances lol. I would like to think that the engineering and upkeep on the Marriott would be a lot better than this building that collapsed. I could think of worse places to die as well

I agree with this. Looking at an article about this on DailyMail, the pictures of the exterior issues of the building is absolutely mindblowing considering the avg place in there was $650K. You got cracks all through the place, exterior coating chipping off, no support beams on them balconies, water problems, etc. That place should have been in top notch condition.

Not one bit. This is a super rare event, and would continue to be so.

IDK, may go up, of course the owners will pay the costs of more frequent inspections and so forth.

Remember 92 when Andrew hit building inspections in South Florida changed due to the damage the hurricane caused alot of the older buildings, they brought in a new system and require stricter inspection laws.

The thing is and it's sad this is 700k condo minimum and the foundation was that bad, literally alot of areas in Miami they just pretty up the exterior while the interior is old and rotten.

HAF will jump through the roof as the costs will go up due to tighter regulation, you better be well made to live in that area.. everyone by the water is gonna feel it.

Home insurance down here is already a grip due to hurricanes and weather, it will go up more.

Not to mention companies will most likely shut down as that whole area people will leave and sell their condos.

I mean when I had my old Condo years back it was barely 300 a month for HAF, now it's about double that and I was in the trap, a nice area I wouldn't be surprised if it's 1k and up just for HAF + mortgage...

Heads will roll regardless, those white folks will be out for blood, 80 years old falling to their death while their kids are engineers or doctors, this will be a long process...

Some of them companies will probably close and come up and target more minority, lower income areas and continue their neglect where there will be less criticism.

This is sad! The likelyhood of finding any alive at this point has to be 0%. All of this could have been preventable. After the first 24 hours odds of survival are pretty slim.

12-13 floors of concrete piled on top of one another, it be a miracle if they found anyone alive under all that right now.
