All these far-right movements cropping up at around the same time are no coincidence. Don't want to sound like a conspiracy nut but this does feel like a bunch of billionaires around the world sitting in a room deciding the fate of the world.

As the world has gotten smaller, citizens are reacting to the same cultural forces the same. Duerte, Trump, Bolsonaro.

If we got Obama, Merkel, and leftist governments for a decade, then it makes sense that the reaction would be the same. The reason China and the Middle East stay the same is their dictatorships force their governments through political upheaval.

Remember Mussolini, Stalin, and Hilter all rose at the same time.

I think they'll have a hard time with that longterm in 2018. Trump or no Trump.

That said a lot of people believe Maduro is a victim of Western lies and conspiracies and continues his reign of terror.

He'll probably start with the corruption angle and jail/fire a bunch of key officials to replace them with his supporters.

I forgot about Maduro. Good point.

The similarities of the political environment and propaganda makes me think the dude is right. Yes, at the end of the day, when you're in the election booth you are responsible for your vote. But the online presence and culture that people like Dueturte, Trump, and Bosolnaro had was so similar in style and rhetoric, that this shyt doesn't feel totally organic. There was a story that Bolsonaro violated election law by utilizing an organization of rich guys to do exactly as breh said

Bolsonaro business backers accused of illegal Whatsapp fake news campaign
But according to allegations in a front-page report by the Folha de São Paulo, one of Brazil’s leading newspapers, Bolsonaro has been getting an illegal helping hand from a group of Brazilian entrepreneurs who are bankrolling a campaign to bombard WhatsApp users with fake news about Haddad.

and there is no doubt Trump used the same network probably funded by people like Sheldon Adelson and Robert Mercer. Before people vote, you have a sophisticated network trying to convince them to vote a particular way by spreading fake news and information to steer their feelings.

Ok but that is a sophisticated propaganda campaign by obvious partisan actors, not some obscure cabal conspiracy.

The Brazilian military has a parade last night in Rio. All Bolsonaro has to do is say the word. :francis:

As if the only thing holding back the police/military from bringing justice to the ghettos was being held back by the government. There's about to be a bloody massacre in those areas.

An observation but it’s interesting how the card carrying left and right have clear contradictions when it comes to international political events. The same people who make every excuse in the book for Maduro, are crying bloody murder here (and vice versa for the right on Maduro)

Not a Brazil expert by any means, but surely PT has some responsibility for creating an environment where they’re absolutely despised after a decade plus in power? Am I wrong in that assumption?

Definitely. I'd only ask why is this dude in particular the answer? Brazil has more parties than America's Dems or Republicans. So the voters felt this guy's rhetoric was the most authentic against the PT party's corruption?

He has the army and police behind him. Don’t be surprised if he does a soft military coup. He is about to fill his cabinet with generals.
I see him doing so and easily being replaced when any weakness is exposed. Something about him seems very amateurish. He just doesn't strike me as a strong or intimidating figure.
