BJJ is probably the best discipline out of all mma. i dropped in 2 BJJ classes at my gym and got my ass worked. i was sparring with a blue belt and he almost choked me out and almost hyper extended my arm. just remember that losing is normal in life so just be prepared to tap and learn from your experience. i didnt know how to pass a guard when i first started but now can break out of it and know some beginners take down defense.

james toney wasnt even training. he came in at one of the heaviest weight of his career. he needed a payday and the ufc gave him one :russ:

Terrible example.

Toney was way past :flabbynsick: and was punch drunk.
He couldn't handle boxers anymore so he went mma.

You're not putting a monk unconscious :russ:..they can focus their chi and slow down thier blood flow or speed it up..you can even slice em in the throat and they'll slow the blood flow to keep em alive..so that's out the window..you also think you can drop people on thier head..well..how you gonna drop a monk on thier head when thier heads are hard as a rock..that won't work..they don't even teach you how to cultivate your chi in bjj..you already lost:ufdup:

:ohhh:how much of this is really really true?

No :troll:?

What you can expect is to be humbled on a regular basis. If you arent then you dont have many high level belts at your academy. At this stage, you should be like water. Absorb everything the teacher is telling you. Its all useful. Dont fight with strength becuase you may get injured. Leave your pride outside the gym because if you take it into the gym you will get injured. People try to win so much that they end up bodying themselves triyng to prove to everyone that they cant get taken down. It doesnt matter. What matters most is losing so you can get wins. YOu must lose to win in BJJ otherwise you will never win. This doesnt make sense now but it will in time. Please ask this brown belt anything i am almost great.

goodlooks on the advice....i will be hittin u up for more w/e...

@Mowgli How long would it take a noob to learn and be efficient in BJJ or Muay Thai? Jon Jones learned Muay Thai in a year...is that realistic?
Ok there are some things you have to take into account and some things you have to concede to

There are people in this world that are genetically gifted. They have been in shape most of their lives. These people can become highly proficient in any martial art very quickly because of their natural gifts. There are people that are flabbyn sick that also just have a mind for fight psychology and end up becoming very good. So realize, there is a difference between you, and Jon Jones.

That said, everyone learns at their own pace. Can you become good in muay thai in a year. Yea sure. What are the factors. Age, current level of fitness and dedication. If you train 6 days a week for a year, you will be Awesome. Most people who balance work and family life can only give so much time to the arts so while you can become good taking a class 3-5 times a week, some people get frustrated because noobs with money come in and take night and day classes, surpass them and then crush them.

You wont be officially efficient until you get your purple belt in bjj . Everything before that is a lot of strength, bad technique and tapping. I mean, you dont want to even say you're great at this point because just when you think you're good you'll realize theres someone better. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE BETTER.

In conclusion, can you get efficient in a year? Moderately if you dedicate your life to it but what are the chances? Slim because you may not have the time and or you may not have the genetic gifts but obviously hard work and training does pay off.

:russ: :smh: It wouldnt have made a difference if he was training. Without takedown defense and some basic grappling skills to avoid takedowns and to get back on his feet, he was going to have a lot of trouble in mma.

Hes got wins in professional boxing in 2013.

Last thing to keep in mind when training is who you're training to fight. If you're training to fight average thug bozos in the street ok thats fine but you should keep in mind that when you're training you should be training to kill killers. People that train and are efficient are who we should be setting our sites on. You will realize at a certain point in your skill set that the average man your size and maybe a little bigger really has no chance against you. Flabby n sick nikkas stand a punchers chances but on average, stand no chance against you. Being the best white belt is cool, but no, it gets greater. These arent the people you should be focusing on. Its the people that have skill and you should make your benchmark for skill. Train to beat the best n ull b the best.

@Mowgli what is your honest opinion of a professional boxer vs. a bjj brown belt.

Keep in mind that a decent professional boxer has enough defense to stay out of his opponents reach:ld:

A bjj brown belt that competes and a boxer that competes i have my money on the bjj guy 95 percent of the time. The boxer has no weapons once hes off his feet and its to easy to close the distace to get the clinch and the takedown. Going for the legs on the boxer, what punch is he going to throw to ko someone spearing at his knees? A boxer doesnt have hands that allow him to KO someone just because he throws his hands. He has to have both his feet on the ground and get his hips and body behind the punch. This is the reason why they do so bad against grapplers. Most times they have to be still to strike and if they do some funny wild diving punch or whatever, and MISS, or dont KO, they've gone right into the clinch where they can be taken down, shyt or submitted.

The thing about the boxing argument is that whos a good enough boxer to represent boxing. Its like if it isnt Mike Tyson or Floyd Mayweather people will not accept any other professional boxer when they see the L'd piling up in the bjj vs boxing matches. Plently of pro boxers have tried MMA and they have been taken down and subbed like the rest of them. YOu dont strike with someone who outclasses you in striking. You bring them into your world, the ground, submit and go home with your face intact.

He's doing chinese boxing kung fu with gloves on..take him out the gloves and do some real shyt..you'll see the difference...
This is the only part ur right about.......

kung fu is normally meant to kill if someone is a real artist who practices.. You will not be taken down, u will not be hit in the face by a boxer. @Mowgli is right about the rest tho.

How are nikkas on here dissing BJJ? that's just stupid.
