Honestly?

I don’t think he got the respect he deserves because being a heartthrob all those years and then Hollywood gossip about his life overshadow his talent

Part of being a great actor is taking great roles though. Both had some great roles in the 90s but I think the 00s are what separated them. Brad Pitt's 00s films are largely blockbusters, ensembles or big leading man-driven movies. There's Snatch and Ocean's 11 early on before you get to shyt like Troy or Mr & Mrs Smith. End of the 00s were good for him though - Babel, Jesse James, Inglorious Basterds. Flip side Leo had way better roles and directors in the 00s. Catch Me If You Can, Gangs Of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, and Blood Diamond all back to back. And ended the decade with Revolutionary Road, Shutter Island, and Inception.

12 monkeys to me was his best role …the range to play that character is as dope

Well Hollywood gave him an Oscar, it was like a lifetime achievement award, like there was no doubt he was winning. He was great in the movie though (Once upon a time in Hollywood)
