The Takeover
Tommy Morrison perhaps?
Jeff lacy and yes I was on his bandwagon. That calzhage beating had a nikka salty .
Derrick gainer.
Chavez jr.
Jorge Paez jr
Adrien broner
Samuel Peter singing some Nigerian Jesus anthem in the middle of the ring
in his prime who has he lost to but a prime Manny fukking Pacquiao.
and do not even mention that cheating bytch who had cinderblocks in his glove. That fight tore into Cotto and you can see the effects to this day.
Even post-prime a focused Cotto gave Mayweather the hardest fighter he's ever faced. Straight from the horses mouth.
These are arguable ALL TIME GREATS he's lost to.
its not who he has lost too, he just hasnt beaten anyone great. his best wins are over Paulie and Zab. those are quality wins. Cotto was bigger and stronger than them. Cotto was one of those meltdown fighters. He fought at 140 to have that advantage. His next best win was past prime Shane. a very good fighter who is overrated into being a great fighter.
@King P
it wasnt his fault...but, he was overhyped even without the Tito comparisons. the comparisons just made it that much worse. early in his career that kept saying he had the chance to be an all time great and I never saw that. you have to have something special to be a great and nothing about him was special. plus, he really overpowered guys at 140. the same way Oscar was murking people at 130-35
That was one of the most brutal beatings i've seen. Kirkland's got a knack for bushing hyped up fighters.Glen Tapia would've been on this list in the future for sure if kirkland didn't end him.
Pavlik
Seth Mitchell
Linares
After the first Taylor fight you don't remember Lampley's "We have a new world champion and he's from Youngstown, Ohio!!!" Mouth orgasm?Pavlik came out of no where. I remember seeing him on Shobox and thinking he was gonna be a world champ. Not sure who overhyped him after that. I surely didnt because I picked Paul Williams to beat him...but that fight never happened and I thought they were fools for picking Serge. I didnt expect him to beat BHop either, although I didnt expect it to be that lopsided.
Mitchell was horrible. First decent fighter he faced was gonna get in his ass.
Linares...I didnt expect him to lose the fights he lost, the way he lost them, and as close to each other as they were.

Agreed with Mitchell but HBO was hoping he'd be next.

that valero-mosquera fight was some good shyt..linares wasn't overhyped..he just lost in ways that made you scratch your headLineares wasn't overhyped too much as much as he was a darling of hardcore fans. Like them dudes who only watch Indy or Japanese wrestling and pick some Obscure talent to hype up. Edwin Valero was this especially after his 2006 fight with mosquera
I concour with all this, but HBO hype is overhype. Remember they had a 24/7 for him and BHOPyeah, HBO hype. they replaced Hopkins with Taylor then quickly found out Taylor wasnt ready to rule that division. Kelly was there, had power, and was white. His reign was destined to be short because he was a straight line fighter who couldnt deal with anything going lateral.
