Speaking of Jirov, he was overhyped too. I knew Toney would beat him. Jirov was ok but not the beast they made him out to be.

jirov was the man at cruiser..dude was the quintessential body puncher word to mike mccallum..when he moved up to heavy..outside of the mesi he was nothing special

Sugar Shane Mosley............Vernon Forrest

I dont think Shane was overhyped. He didnt have that Olympic pedigree so he was still kinda unknown to the masses before the Holiday fight. He is an overrated fighter however to be a future HOF entrant. Forrest...I dont believe he was overhyped or overrated. I think he was avoided to a degree...(wouldve loved to see him against ODLH) but basically fought most of his career with a bum shoulder. He stayed cortozoned up.

he was good, but overhyped. cruiser didnt have much to offer overall at the time and the top guys werent fighting each other. he thought he would get a big name scalp on his resume with Toney and failed. no slight to him though Toney was just better.

Arthur Abraham and to a lesser degree Samuel Peters

Abraham yes. Peter yes...but Peter still fizzled out too soon. Couldve been better...but was lazy and out of shape and didnt work on his skills which were horrible.

Kermit Cintron's bytch ass :pacspit:

This

Dude had some power and length, but was a fukking head case. They tried to hype him up, but every time he almost got close to the top, he'd slip on a pebble or some shyt and come tumbling down.

I remember there used to be this guy on Eastside boxing that used to train him or work within his camp, that would talk shyt about dude every time he had a fight coming up and tell some story showcasing his bytchassness. shyt was :heh:

Most good white fighters. Ski Da Gawd definitely aint no racist but the "Great White Hype" agenda in boxing would make you think Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti were legends because of their legendary fights against EACH OTHER.

I am not sure he was overhyped. He got some notoriety coming up but he wasnt like Cotto or Taylor (the two guys I despised the most due to hype). If you looked at how raw Cintron was when he was fighting on NBC then a couple of years later how his punches shortened up, you could see he was improving. He was really developing under Manny Steward. Some fighters though, once they make a lil bit of money they get lazy and dont work hard. Thats what happened to Cintron. He stopped improving. Another reminder of why Floyd is different from everyone else, no matter how much money he makes, he works hard as hell to stay where he is at.

breh....Miguel Cotto aint shyt compared to what he was hyped to be. They were talking about this guy being the heir apparent to Trinidad. He may have made more money over his career than Tito, but in terms of his career....

:mjlol:

in comparison to Tito. He never looked like a future great to me.

Lucian Bute, :laff: @ the nonsense going on during the Super Six. fukk that guy.

Taylor cause they REALLY wanted a heir to Hopkins, it's not really his fault I think.

in his prime who has he lost to but a prime Manny fukking Pacquiao.

and do not even mention that cheating bytch who had cinderblocks in his glove. That fight tore into Cotto and you can see the effects to this day.

Even post-prime a focused Cotto gave Mayweather the hardest fighter he's ever faced. Straight from the horses mouth.

These are arguable ALL TIME GREATS he's lost to.

Cotto was overhyped, but let's be honest, that wasn't his really his fault. He never liked being compared to Trinidad and spent his whole career trying to get out of Tito's shadow. The only reason Cotto was compared to Trinidad, is because they were both Rican, and Tito was the last successful Rican in boxing at the time. It's no different than people calling Broner the next Mayweather and Donaire the next Pacquiao.

The comparison was always fukking stupid as hell, because Cotto and Trinidad are NOTHING alike. From personality/demeanor to in-ring fighting styles. Now Felix Verdejo on the other hand, could be compared to Tito. He's got personality like Tito, and his fighting style is more like Tito's. Then again, he's also around my age, so I can see why that's the case.

He was too small for heavyweight and faced good competition. Jirov wasn't pushed that hard. His cruiser days were his best
