Philly shell??? Oh I've seen you've played fight night. James toney was from Michigan. Nicolino locche was a master at shoulder rolling and he was from Argentina. So tell me why it's called the Philly shell again? :bryan:

I've had 5 amateur fights what about you?

Do your homework on George Benton and you'll see why it's called the Philly Shell. And don't come back saying "I knew this already". Because its obvious you didn't.

Fighters from all round the world used that style years before George Benton. See kid chocolate for evidence.

If you fought with your hands up, then your record would be better than 3-2

You don't know this at all. One of my losses was because the guy was legit better than me. Fighting with my hands up wouldn't have changed a damn thing. The other loss I took the fight on 4 days notice and I wasn't even training at all. Where my hands are placed wouldn't have mattered in any if my fights.

I don't fight with my hands down by my waist by the way. I just try not to use my hands for defense so they are free to punch.

I base my whole game after these fighters

Roger mayweather

Bob foster

Freddie little

And some b hop.

I agree almost entirely with yo moms

If you really research what boxing is about you'd learn that hands up is just what trainers who don't know how to teach proper defense and stance say

This is the one thing where my opinion differs a little. For some fighters, depending on their reflexes they probably are best off with hands up.

But if you can get away with fighting with your hands down its really a big advantage. Its easier to lure someone in with your hands down and then you give yourself counterpunching opportunities.

You can also punch harder when you start from the waste area. You get more leverage especially if u spread your legs apart

Okay, that's not the point I was making. I said do your HW to WHY they call it that. Now you see why they call that. I'm just trying to help you with the question you asked.

thats pretty cool i didnt know geroge benton had a move named after him. benton was a really good fighter he beat giardello who i think is a top 3 middleweight p4p i have him over hopkins. i'm not sure why it would be named after him though a lot of guys a lot more well known than he was that turned the shoulder in and rolled away from right hands a lot earlier than when he was fighting like archie moore or joe walcott

jack sharkey vs mickey walker 1931

its funny because if you look closely you see walker bringing his right arm across his face after he misses the right hand which is a defense you saw guys like archie moore use a lot and a lot of other old time fighters that nobody today uses. the problem with it is it leaves your liver completely exposed but the reason fighters would do it though is because that little uppercut you see here after missing a right hand was such a common move back in those days, so much that guys needed to create a defense against it, and this was it. the glove and arm gets brought across the face like a face bar to stop that uppercut. its a clever move i wish guys would have the sense to realize to do this against floyd mayweather but they either dont or cant. but the whole reason for all this to begin with was because the "shoulder roll" or "philly shell" was so common in the first place and was natural to come back with that right uppercut with it.

if you watch a fight like georges carpantier vs jack dempsey which was a fight that happened in 1921 you will see a lot of shoulder rolling. i like george benton but its not fair for him to take all the credit like that

Its smart to base your style on somewhere between 3 and 5 different boxers. I consider myself to be a mixture of Roy Jones, Floyd Money, James Toney, Bhop, and Pernell.

Just knowing the fighters where u got your style from Im sure id enjoy watching you fight. Im not a big fan of textbook boxing, which i consider a young Mike Tyson to be a great example of. Mike was still entertaining because of his power though. And Im not against the textbook style, it depends on the skill sets and athleticism of an individual.

Tyson didnt know how to fight going backwards, something Bhop was and still is one of the best at.
