Don't diss my record. At least I've got the balls to actually do something that I love. I'm from the UK too :lupe:
Im not dissing your record. Nothing wrong with doing something positive. I haven't boxed in years. I actively compete in BJJ though

Back to the OG topic. There is more to defense than hands up yes youre right. But head movement and using a shoulder is only gonna keep you from getting touched so much. Hands up combined with head movement works wonders. Word to Winky Wright

as a boxer..SRR didn't really have a lot of weaknesses other than lapses in defense because dude had a chin..he knew could take them shots....similar to ali in a way because it caught up to him physically in the end

This is coming from someone who boxes amateur too. If you really research what boxing is about you'd learn that hands up is just what trainers who don't know how to teach proper defense and stance say. Defense is built in to the stance if your stance is correct, so your hands are free to actually punch.

Covering your face with your hands is something a child could comprehend. There's no skill involved in that at all.

Well this is coming from someone who has actually boxed amatuers and sparred with lower level/mid level pros, trained kids and women for about 25 years..........your assessment is wrong, so wrong. Who told you this nonsense breh? Stance is only PART of defense. Come on, is this what theyre teaching our youth in your parts?

One of the greatest to use the philly shell/shoulder roll style.
my opinion is there really is no such thing as a shoulder roll. its just a natural movement that naturally occurs in boxing.

carlos baldomir doing a "shoulder roll"

OcX1FOG.gif

he did it on accident. if you look closely he was just trying to throw a check hook over the top of the right hand but botched it and you can see the way the shoulder roll just occurs naturally in boxing

all the old fighters stood very sideways vs squared up and fought with their hands really low like tommy loughran or willie pep and could shouler roll right hands just by the design of the stance. today their style is looked at as crude but that was why they all stood like that. right hands back then had a nick name "sucker punches" because the fighters of that era felt that you would have to be a sucker to actually get hit with one

his biggest weakness WAS HAVING THE BALLS AND GUTS to fight against fighters that outweighed him by 15lbs...

Who told him the nonsense that you need your hands up to fight? I like to see what my opponent is doing instead of hiding behind my gloves like a p*ssy boi. That takes zero skill.

boxing is hundreds of years old and standing squared up with your hands high up is a really new style all things considered. the first fighter that i know of on film that fought with that style is marcel cerdan who fought throughout the late 40's which makes me think that the style originated somewhere in europe around that time. ive always been interested in how that style began. looking at old film a few more fighters started doing it in the 50's and by the 60's and 70's it was pretty common. but thats how new that style is.

i think it has something to do with the evolution of sparring ie gloves became a lot larger and headgear became over protective and fighters began to learn how to fight under these new conditions in a different way. it coincided with the rise of amateur boxing programs which is almost a different sport from boxing

Well I come from under the tutelage of George Washington (RIP) from the historic or well know Bed-Stuy Boxing gym. Which produced actual champions like Mark Breland, Mike Tyson (for a tiny bit), Junior Jones,Riddikk Bowe, and numerous good/great fighters you probably won't even know. He's the one who told me that "nonsense". Keeping your hands high doesn't hinder your vision, you don't cover your eyes....puccy boi, you cover your jaws, nose, ears, and temple you simple minded idiot, see Peek-a-Boo style and the greats like Mike Tyson and Winky who used it, i guess they were puccy bois who had no skill, right? See its kids like you that will get fukked up coming against a real fighter who has real technique. Just the mere fact that you said, " I like to see what my opponent is doing instead of hiding behind my gloves like a puccy boi", shows me you don't know shyt about real boxing. I can teach your ignorant ass so much, but will you listen? You must be a horrible student to whomever teaches you, better yet with an outlook like yours I highly doubt that you fight. Lil niqqa I just spent 5 months traveling the world fighting and sparring people from different countries and I'm considered an old head. Until you can sniff my resume, stfu and stop acting like you know it all because I know despite all of my experience, I don't, but I do know that I will run circles around you when it comes to this shyt.

Now like the homie said, refute my point. You didn't refute shyt, you typed some bullshyt answer to further show that you don't know wtf you're talking about.
