Are you speaking about its opening or its total with those numbers? The movie is surely going to make way more than that in its total gross. The movie appears to be a $100,000,000+ grosser at the domestic box office to be honest.

It has great reviews and buzz, Jordan Peele's name is attached to it, and the release date is great. That is the same release date where Straight Outta Compton and Inglourious Basterds unsuspectingly became blockbusters. They oughta open it wide out of the gate, and their staggering the release is the only thing that might mess it up being a huge movie.
The MEG is performing with Geostorm numbers at the best.

I saw it at a screening in New York City in June, and the movie is EXTREMELY commercial in its sensibilities. It resembles Inside Man in its commercialness at the least. It hits as hard as all Spike Lee movies hit, but it also has Jordan Peele's fingerprints all across it. You can tell that Jason Blum and Jordan Peele helped ensure that Spike Lee still has his voice while still enthralling audiences. The audience there LOVED the movie, and I have not seen audiences interact with and receive a movie that well since Get Out to be honest. The movie happens to be funny while also being very poignant, insightful with an emotional climax. It is going to be another early August period piece involving race relations that performs great with audience similar to The Help and The Butler. The movie is still going to have credibility with critics and the arthouse audiences, though.
