For such a brilliant man, James Cameron is dumb as shyt. He should have rode that momentum until the wheels fell off, instead he intentionally shelved his series for a damn decade

They basically forced it to happen. Put the movie back in theaters after it's original run and milked it until it passed. Disney probably paid to push it over with ticket purchases or something they gave away. Like how an NFL game is gonna be blacked out and somebody comes through and purchases tickets in mass to prevent it.

It was a manufactured achievement. It was going to happen either way and when it didn't happen organically forces stepped in to make it happen with a "re-release" with added footage because the original run had winded down and came up short. Even that came and went and it still didn't happen but here we are. Regardless.... the job got done. This a different time and movies just ain’t gonna sit in theaters for 34 weeks no more like that. The cycle has moved faster and you just gotta get it while you can.
Avatar today would probably do the same thing it it dropped today and the role was reversed.
Same with anyone else.... when you right there close to that achievement. You grab it

Legs was shorter than leprechauns. This shyt made 2B in like the first 2 weeks. They should have blown past Avatar months ago. Needing a rerelease to squeak by after that opening is just nasty. You hate to see it.
So we acting like Avatar and Titanic didn't get re releases as well
