Well, considering some of the atrocities Russia has committed in Chechia, their hatred of the Russian state is not wholly unjustified.
That being said, these are not Iraqis. These are not Saudis. They've been in a nearly constant state of war for decades. The Chechens who continue to wage jihad against the Russian state aren't exactly model freedom fighters.

You have to understand -- the rebel groups there are the mutated outcome of a secular nationalist struggle, in the same sense that middle eastern insurgencies and independence movement were originally secular and nationalist (see Ba'athist Party). It was only after the perceived failure of the secularist movement that the religious were able to fill the gap.
Now, they're waging holy war. So you tell me, which side do you support? The jackbooted Moscow-sponsord thugs, or the rabid theocratic warlord thugs?
I can't say on here which one if I HAD to pick 1. .. but right now, I will say neither.
